Can I/should I wear this dress

Going to NY in the summer so have started to look at outfits.
I spotted this dress and LOVE it. DP says to buy it.

Before I do, am I too old to wear it in my late 20s? I feel it's pretty Carrie Bradshaw, but the fact it's described as 'ballet' inspired has made me question this. www.net-a-porter.com/gb/en/product/670478/needle___thread/coppelia-embellished-gauze-and-tulle-midi-dress

For what? Dinner? Walking in Central Park? Shopping day?

I'd wear it for dinner or theatre.

Beautiful dress, Im guessing that you are slim and willowy?

In London it would be overdressed for the theatre.

It's gorgeous and I'd have definitely worn it at your age! I'm 41 now and would feel silly in it, but late 20s? Without a doubt!

I'm going to NY too this summer but we're taking our dc, so won't be packing glam outfits like yours!

OP if you can't be overdressed and Carrie Bradshaw esq in your twenties when can you? Buy it. I LOVE it. Perfect for a city dinner.

For dinner. I was thinking of wearing it at The Modern, but will need some kind of jacket... Might juxtapose it with black leather? Will need to try it to see.
Not willowy as only 5"5 but 8-10 and small chested so will be able to be bra less no probs.

Do you think the tuille bottom will look odd?

Glad the general feedback is that it's nice.

I am very jealous - of COURSE you can wear it - would look great with a juxtaposed lather jacket too :)

Tulle skirt is beautiful and on trend I think. Not sure about leather with it if I'm honest, think it's a v delicate look. Will you need a jacket though if NY in summer?

I have been to the US three times, but not to NY so this might be wrong information, but if I had worn that dress everywhere else I have been I would have been massively overdressed. Even in naice hotels in Europe people don't dress up for dinner any more.

It is a gorgeous dress though.

Nickname...I've been to NY before but spent most of the time site seeing and collapsing in hotel at 11pm with pizza so this time want to relax more in the day and eat out more formally at night. Also, were in a hotel with pool and 2 bars this time so might get to wear it to a party too.

Google says 18c fir the night temp so think I will need some form of jacket. I was bloody freezing last April! I think I'll look for that seperately once I've brought the dress, as might need it to match a few outfits.

I think a leather jacket would look great actually and I love the dress. I'm 28 and if I had the figure I'd definitely wear it.

TO OLD IN YOUR LATE 20s????

Report
Limelight · 09/04/2016 21:27

I know! I almost fell over! Seriously OP, apart from In the Night Garden, you are not too old for anything in your late 20s.

Have an amazing time. Grin

Have to add to the chorus of how can you be too old for any clothes (other than school uniform..) in your 20s!

I'm 38 and I'd wear it! Well, if I wasn't hugely pregnant with nowhere more glamorous than Cineworld on my social horizon.

Makes me feel better! I live in an area where a lot of people have children in their teens- fine. But makes me feel old.

You won't need any sort of coat in the Summer, never mind a leather jacket in NYC at that time of year.

If you're going somewhere very fancy then by all means wear this dress. I'm sure it will look fantastic on you.

If anything you may need something to put over your shoulders indoors to counteract the fierce air conditioning everywhere.
