Does anyone else just not suit red lipstick?

I'd love to be able to wear red lipstick but I've had to accept the fact that it just doesn't suit me! I find it looks hard and ageing on me. I'm
an ' Autumn' ( have had my colours done ) and find a nude is much more flattering. I'm pale with light blue eyes but with freckles and a redness to my skin. I find red lipsticks make my skin look more red and clashes with the blue in my eyes. Anyone else given up on red lipstick?

Yes I'm the same.

Ignore all the 'there's a red to suit everyone' bull as I've tried so many and this is simply not true.

I'm the opposite, any colour that's not red (or wine, or another deep red) looks hideous on me. I'm a clear warm deep if that helps

Yes, I'm a shaded summer (medium pale, medium brown hair, grey-green eyes) and it just doesn't work on me. It either goes very cold and blue, or it brings out the pink blotchy quality I prefer not to accentuate (I'm funny like that). Even a berry shade doesn't work- it doesn't look awful, but it turns bright pink. I find the closest I can get is Clinique chubby stick in "fuller fig". It's a very brownish berry.

Yes that ' there's a red to suit everyone' is pernicious bollocks! Was so upset this year when Boots No7 discontinued their ' Divine' lipstick as it was the perfect browny nude for me and I'd worn it for years. Apparently it wasn't 'fashionable' any more. Bollocks to that! It's a very flattering shade on lots of people. Not found a shade in another brand that works so well since. I would have bought ten of them if I'd known they were going to do that...Sad

I have never tried red at all. Suspect I might have the same problem as you as very few lipsticks look ok on me. Best I have found are Bobby brown boring rusty peach colour and Clinique black honey. I'd love to find an everyday lipstick that would liven up my face on its own.

I've given up on red lipstick. They're not all a complete disaster and over the years, I've found some that look reasonably nice. But they still never look as good on me as other colours do so I don't bother trying to make red work anymore. I'm a deep autumn (I think) with brown eyes, yellowy skin and dark red hair.

Have you tried an almost-coral type red? Maybe a brick red? I find peach/coral tones to be very flattering on skin prone to redness so maybe an orange/coral red.

I think red takes a certain degree of confidence to wear as it is such obviously saying I am wearing make up, rather than a subtle could it be natural look. I like it more as I get older and love to see a woman in her 80s or 90s ( my great grandma in law for instance) wearing the sort of red lipstick she would have worn whilst driving a truck in ww11.

Me! I just don't wear it and stick to very pale lip gloss when I remember!

I'm a gingery blonde with freckles and rosy cheeks prone to flushing and I have green eyes (selling myself well here!!) and I have never ever found a red lipstick that looks nice on me.

I'm a 'winter' so the colour suits me. But I never wear it as my lips are too thin and it looks like a vagina

I agree but I am also starting to wonder if drawing attention to my mouth by way of lipstick is a good idea at all. With red don't your teeth need to be near perfect and rather white?

Lolimax, your colouring sound lovely ( I hope you've had your colours done tho as with your colouring you need to get it right to look your best). You're probably an 'Autumn'. It does make a big difference once you know what colours suit you.

Well thank you destinys! I think I've 'grown' into my looks and colouring....a rather unfortunate looking child and teenager but being middle aged seems to suit me lol!! And yes it probably helps that I know how to flatter my colouring rather than fight it! (And no grey hairs which is good)

Heavens, no, I don't suit red lippy at all.

I go for soft pinky-browns - like my lip colour but better.

Red lippy makes me look like Mrs Doyle from Fr Ted when she's dolled up to go out but not as attractive

Me. I'm pale with thin lips and all red lipstick makes my mouth look like a thin red line. I can't wear eyeliner either (white roots to my lashes). I actually stopped reading Sali Hughes' beauty column because she had such a fixation on both of these things.

I am never without red lipstick and have about 45 different ones. Other colours just look weird on my face!

I am the same, also have pale skin, freckles and a red tone to my skin. Have never found a red that suits me.

Destinys Daughter, I used to use No7 Divine lipstick too and was annoyed when they discontinued it. I started using the lip crayon in Daydreamer which is nice and nude and now they've brought out some nude shades of lipstick, I've got one called Honey Bloom which is the lightest shade. The sales assistant told me they brought them out because people were complaining about no nude lipsticks in the new range. Clinique creamy nude is about the best nude lipstick though it is more expensive.

Me too. Incredibly thin lips, pale skin prone to freckling, blue eyes. You'd think with the dark hair it would work but I look like a child that's got hold of her mum's make up bag. Hideous.

I've found I can wear red lipstick now that I am a bit older. This may just be confidence, however. I may look awful!

When I was younger I often felt I was playing "dress up" with my mum's make-up with red lipstick.

I don't wear it everyday, but like it as a "going out" look.

Love red lipstick. Used to use MAC Russian Red but now use Becca Alina which is sheer and flattering. I have red hair, green eyes and pale skin. Neutrals do nothing for me as my skin is so pale I need something stronger.

I love to see young women with pale youthful skin and bright red lips. I think they look amazing.

Me, I look like coco the clown. I've tried it several times. I'm more suited to a pinky red.
