Are these all just too hideous??

polyhymnia · 04/10/2015 12:25

Thinking of new warm ankle boots for winter.

I have a pair of Ash Virgins in black which I'll be wearing until weather gets really cold.

What then? My taste runs too something bikerish - such as the Ugg Grandle.

But one part of me tells me something sensible like Fitflops would be the most comfortable choice and best for my feet.

Such as:

or these:

Anyone want to tell me they're not really too ugly???

OP posts:
IamSantaClaus · 04/10/2015 12:32

Oh I like the second ones . The first ones are not my style at all but I don't think they're ugly . Definitely prefer the second ones

ImNoVanGough · 04/10/2015 12:33

Oh Lordy, they're pretty ugly (in my opinion) the soles are just way to heavy and clunky looking
The uggs are much nicer and I think they'd go with more.

divere · 04/10/2015 12:56

It makes me so sad that FitFlops shoes are ugly, because they are like walking on a cloud. Surely it can't be that bloody hard to create a nice looking shoe with the same comfort?!

Candypops14 · 04/10/2015 13:00

Yup sorry there really ugly!

NotTodaySatan · 04/10/2015 13:03

I don't like UGGs but the Grandles are infinitely better than both Fitflops. They're really ugly, particularly the second ones.

EmilyPunkhurst · 04/10/2015 13:32

Yep, sorry, pretty ugly.

Twinklestein · 04/10/2015 19:14

I have to agree they are just a bit too ugly. But I get the need for comfort.

Have you tried Aquatalia at Russell & Bromley?

They are supercomfortable and waterproof.

comfy biker

Twinklestein · 04/10/2015 19:17

Not Aquatalia:

more stylish biker

I bought these and they're supercomfy.

Dowser · 04/10/2015 19:49

I wouldn't wear them. I'd get them for my 87 year old mum though!

Apartridgeamongstthepidgeons · 04/10/2015 20:12

Vote ugly too.

Now I know what make of boots a friend of mine was wearing last year, I thought they looked like Herman Munster boots but their obviously fitflop onesGrin

polyhymnia · 04/10/2015 21:11

I'm a great fan of R and B in general and also of Acquatalia (had a great pair a few years ago) but sadly I think all those gorgeous boots have just too much of a heel for me.

OP posts:
hackedoffnow · 04/10/2015 21:45

The are like slipper boots in sheltered housing.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 04/10/2015 22:31

They make me think of a shaven Yetti Blush sorry!

polyhymnia · 04/10/2015 23:39

OK message received . Obviously I thought they were ugly myself but was secretly hoping that some stylish person would tell me they were fine as well as comfy!

CreviceImp · 05/10/2015 00:17

Have you looked at Conker Shoes Pobs? They do them with a fleece lining now. They are expensive but cost per wear etc.

They are the most comfortable boots I have ever had and the leather is in a league of it's own. I went for a vibram wedge sole which is light and springy. You can also have whatever colour you want them in.When the sole wears out- they fit a new one so you get years of wear out of them.

Other comfortable brands- El Naturalista, Gudrun Sjoden and Fly.

Floisme · 05/10/2015 07:40

I competely get the need for comfort. I like Twinkle's first link but if they're no use I think you could get away with your first pair. They're plain and simple and fairly discreet so, if the rest of your outfit is stylish (as I'm sure it would be) I don't think they'd be noticeable. But not the second ones as I think the fur makes them too shouty.

Loads of shoes are ugly. It's how you wear them.

I promise you I am stylish Grin

Floisme · 05/10/2015 07:52

Just had a second look at them in the brown. Oof.

But I'm going to hold my nerve Grin

Twinklestein · 05/10/2015 09:13

If comfort is the main issue and you can't wear heels then I would just go with what make your feet happy. The first ones could be funky with the right outfit.

Do you know the brand Arche? - my mum wears them & they're super-comfortable.

Shoon stocks Arche and other comfort shoes too, like these

polyhymnia · 05/10/2015 10:56

Thanks for views and ideas, stylish ones.

Yes, comfort is an essential (various lumps and bumps on feet, plus - in past - plantar fascitis) and, no, I don't do heels - but I'd still like some style in my boots!

Will explore all your suggestions. Have had heard good things about Shoon.

Meanwhile, when I recently looked in R and B, was attracted to these - I already have their less casual Zip Up ones for 'best': www.russellandbromley.co.uk/high-tops-sneakers/zip-out/invt/104746

Have also tried these in store and they're very comfortable, but not100% sure about chain:

Views, please?

I was recently reading about a new company run by an ex fiftlop person but they don't look like fit flops - will return when I've found the link!

polyhymnia · 05/10/2015 11:04

Thanks!

HellKitty · 05/10/2015 11:10

I have some ugly fitflop boots, crush I think? Really comfy but massive. I'm a 6 and could easily get them in a 4.5/5. Ridiculous sizing.

I don't care that they're ugly!

NotTodaySatan · 05/10/2015 11:13

I really like the Geox bikers.

Not keen on the R&B sneakers. They're a bit too bootee for me.

Naicecuppatea · 05/10/2015 11:36

Geox bikers are gorgeous! I want them.

polyhymnia · 05/10/2015 12:06

Know what you mean about bootee look , NotToday. I think some of the very flat Arche ones tend that way, as indeed do these Fitflops - though they are presented on the site as the height of geek chic!www.fitflop.co.uk/en/womens/boots/fitflop-mukluk-shorty-all-black-in-suede-%7C-official-fitflop-store/883945849367.html?cgid=womens_boots&start=24.

Glad some others like the Geox ones.
