Continuing the no-spend June thread.

Do you want to limit your S&B spending? This thread is for anyone who wants to spend as little as possible. Or perhaps you want to spend money on absolutely essential things, or stick to a budget?

I've just reviewed my bank statement and wow, no-spend June really worked for me. Grin

We are facing lots of costly things this summer so I'll try to spend as little as possible on S&B in July.

My plan: replace micellar water, possibly buy one or two cheap items from Kiko (I need a sweatproof eye pencil), and possibly one Korean order. No clothes and shoes and no sale shopping if possible.

I'm in :) enjoyed the control of June so Intend to be frugal in July ! I do have clothes for summer but got quite frustrated today as I'm a stone heavier than last year and they are a bit too tight !! I know a few weeks low carbing will sort that out ! So no clothes spends ! Need some more spf and Cetaphil cleanser but apart from that I don't actually need anything so here's to a low spend July :)

I'm in. I won't commit to spending nothing, but I don't need much except a few bits for our holidays. I will commit to not buying anything unless it's going to have a really good cost per wear ratio - so sensible footwear is okay (I need sandals) but party wear is out! I also need a new eyeliner.

I did v well in June but I'm now in need of a Lush trip, some razors and some new makeup that I've been looking forward to all month. No clothes though and I don't need any new clothes although I'm looking for some summer work shoes.

On the whole though, waiting for July has been very good for me to see how wasteful I have been in the past and how easy it is to spend away.

I'm definitely in! Have bought quite a lot in June - all good purchases with no regrets, but I really want to avoid getting caught up in sale fever, buying things because they're cheap, not because I actually need/want them.

Can I join. I've spent too much lately. I've had a big clear out and still have too much, plus we are doing some big stuff on the house soon, so funds shouldn't be heading towards my wardrobe or bathroom cupboards!

Ill join but it won't be no spend, but lo-spend and review n spend month for me

Last month putting things in lists and then coming back to them after some time helped me decide what I really wanted/needed so will continue doing that. I won't spend on clothes or makeup as I really don't need anymore of those

I need to think through if there is anything I need and try to stick to it! I have a hair appointment on 31 July so I know that is coming up. I could use some plain basic cotton knickers, so might just get a multi pack from M&S at some point. I like to know everything's well covered in the event of a gust of wind raising my skirt. A peril of floaty summer dresses and skirts in this heat Blush

I'm in.

I have spent in Hush (reductions) and Uniqlo (sale) and they are my favourite two shops. I also bought two dresses from M and S sale and Gap sale so I need no more summer clothes! But I always buy well in the June sales so I am happy with the £££ I have spent and focusing on the savings - two dresses from Uniqlo £7.90 each and I wanted them when they were £30 each. And the Hush one will be great cost per wear.

I need new underwear but will wait until I've lost my baby weight to buy new bras, I can make do with the two I have that fit me now. I may need a knicker shop but nothing pricy.

I need to stop the cheap pick-me-up items as they do mount up, and they're the first to go when I do a charity sort-out.

It's hard when you're postnatal though: nothing fits, I feel flabby and grey, zero sleep means I am spending on skincare and seeing no results...

Marking place. Planning to ignore all sales emails with a supercilious smirk on my face while wearing every single item of clothing I already own.

Report
Coastingit · 30/06/2015 22:07

Oh yes and wear things I already own!

So silly, I keep my nice summer dresses for 'best' no idea why?! They wash easily so I can wear them in the week and again at the weekend if I want anyway. I have clothes I've never worn.

I need to do a Gumtree haul. I have massively gone off EBay after too many problem buyers.

I tried to do NoSpendJune (and to be fair, I did okay~ish) but I got a few summer tops and a really nice dress from Peacocks .
If I go looking in August there will be zilch in the shops.

So, all i need to spend on really is my haircut (which is £20) I do my own colour.

The buying nice holiday toiletries can wait til August Grin

I think I need to join, but I need to kit out my son with chefs gear for his new job tomorrow, so after that the pot will be empty anyway till August, just need to stay away from temptation.

I'm in. June was a big month for me clothes-wise. I bought a comfy dress from Asos, a pair of Toms (best purchase ever, havent been off my feet), and.......a Barbour raincoat (in the sale!!! I swear!!! Blush ). All practical purchases that'll hopefully last a few years but boy did it add up.

So I really want to buy zero clothing items in July.

I don't think I've bought any make up since March, bar one lipstick, but its been so long now and I've used up a good lot of stuff, so now there's a little voice in the back of my head saying "Look how good you've been....its ok to treat yourself to some little thing....."

So I have to keep motivated to use the stuff I've already got and not cave!

Me! I spent quite a bit in June - some new ankle boots, a leather jacket and a new handbag. All things I will get tons of use out of.
I'm not going to do a hardcore no spend-too easy to fail for me, so will do a low spend. No more than £40.
I gave a few things away in June so my wardrobe looks organised and tidy. I like it this way so keen not to fill it up with stuff I don't need.

Is this just for you or for the family as a whole?

I do worry sometimes about how much I spend but with 3 dc, they always need to need something. Bits of school uniform, PE kit, pyjamas, stationery for school....I always need to buy something.

I don't usually go overboard with DC's stuff. I will replace their shoes as they wear out (in fact bought summer shoes for both of them last month). So the lo-buy is just to curb my personal shopping. The wants rather than the needs.

Making a list and waiting for some time is an excellent thing. I made a long list in June but now that I am allowed to buy one of the items on it I am not sure I want any of them Shock I was briefly tempted by two beauty box type offers but decided to put them on hold for 24 hours. During that time one offer expired and I realized I was not 100% sure I want a box of surprises. I've been using up my cosmetics for quite a while, do I want potential duplicates or another lipgloss that is not quite right?

So I think this low-buy works best if everyone figures their own rules and goals. My goal is to limit feel-good shopping and rest my quick trigger finger a bit Wink

Ok, I failed miserably in June even though I was the OP Grin, crazy to think I could go on holidays without buying a few bits!

This time I mean business!

I think this thread helped me not to spend impulsively and think before buying. Eventhough I did buy a few things, I ended up spending less than I did on average in the prior months.

Hoping to continue this month!

Hello! Thanks for starting this, Frugal. I am going to aim for no spend again in July. Although I failed on this in June, I'm happy with the purchase s I made and am hopeful I won't feel the need to splurge again. Also now it's finally warmed up, I'm enjoying shopping my own wardrobe so hopefully that should keep me occupied for a while. If I do cave, I have to be able to justify the spend by selling on ebay, as I did in June.

I'm going to try and be strict re skincare and make up as I have loads to use up - will stay on the beauty hoard thread, sharing my empties.
