What to wear to romantic wedding in Italy?

Hello everyone

My best friend is getting married in august. The wedding is in Italy, beautiful romantic Italy. It will be hot!

I want to find something really special to wear.

I'm 5.2, size 14. I have an hourglass figure. Big bust (30HH) small waist and big hips. I have olive skin.

I'd prefer a dress, as the clean lines look better on me. I don't like my legs so something to the knee, or a maxi dress would be nice. Willing to spend up to £100. Will also need advice on shoes please!

Thank you in advance for any replies. I did go shopping yesterday but can't see anything special. I know it's a way off but I'd like to buy something soon while the money is in the bank Grin. Plus I'm mega excited about it Blush

I immediately thought "lace" but I don't know why or what

I adore lace.

It will be hot though. Would lace be a bit uncomfortable in hot weather? Although to be fair, the actual wedding isn't until 5pm so it will probably have cooled down...

I think the least you could do for my helpful advce is take me to the wedding and your +1

It sounds wonderful!

I googled "long dress lace" and got this!

Not what you had in mind? Shock

Oo something with ruffles like a softer version of a cocktail dress. I have this one and it sits well and frames the boobs. Don't think it's available anymore but something similar?

Have you seen the Anthropologie sale? I like this - it's got a bit of lace across shoulders at the back too.

Like the ruffle one but I think any detail around the bust makes me look gigantic.

And the shorter blue one is lovely but not wow enough, if you see what I mean?

Bitoutofpractice I just split up with my FW of an ex, so there is a spare plus one Grin. Actually, the link you posted have some beautiful dresses. But wouldn't want to upstage the bride GrinWink

I do love blue. And I think something structured suits me. I need to be nipped in at the waist.

But! Very open to suggestions!

this one is lovely and much more dressy than the average maxi dress

Grin thank you. It's been 3 months since I got rid. Hardest thing I've ever had to do. He was emotionally abusive.

Since he's gone though I am so happy and relaxed. I've joined the gym, I've lost over a stone. I'm down a dress size. I feel like a new woman. I want my dress to reflect my new found happiness, confidence and freedom. Sounds silly when I say it. Blush

That is a beautiful dress. Unfortunately it's not far off the bride's dress!! So it's a no go. I do love coast though.

That doesn't sound daft at all. It sounds wonderful! Good for you! You sound lovely! Grin

There's some lovely dresses on coast.

Problem you've got if you want long is that they are either very casual maxi types, or a bit bridal

Where in Italy?

Up my end with its high humidity and plague of mosquitoes, go for light natural fibres, not too close fitting , nothing too pale cos it attracts the blood suckers (allegedly) and then add half a tonne of Autan.

Anywhere other than the high up pointy bits with nice, cool breezes, you might want to make sure you don't need sucky tummy big knickers for whatever you wear.

The one time I wore those in the summer I nearly lost my ever loving mind and they were very hard to get off with sweaty paws. Especially in the tiny loo in the bar. I hurt my elbow and bruised my dignity.

You might be alright, last summer it mainly rained this end. And we've had another strangely mild winter, so maybe this summer will be similarly British in style.

Thank you BitSmile

The wedding is in Sorrento. I am plagued by mosquitos they love me. The bastards seek me out. Oh god I never thought about that!

Get what you mean though, I do love structured dresses but anything too restricting would have me in a sweat. Very good point about fat pants too.

How about a nice 50s dress? Is that too much like a prom dress? I'm 34, don't want to look like a teenager Confused

And I agree with maxi dresses being either too casual or too bridal

Absolutely love both blue dresses. Love love love. The only thing about the prom one is I can't go strapless. But I love the shape and the flow of the material. The maxi dress is gorgeous. I've bookmarked it. Thanks.

Still looking for more ideas though, keep them coming!

Could you stretch your budget a teeny weeny bit more? Monsoon dress.

BitOutOfPractice · 10/05/2015 15:41

My DB got married in sorrento in May last year and it was hot then (30c+). Despite the sea breeze I got incredibly sweaty in the maxi dress I was wearing but my dm who is a bit more rotund then I was fine in a knee length 50's type dress.
although any discomfort was soon forgotten after many many glasses of the amazing prosecco

I went to a beautiful wedding in Sicily. Just exquisite.

My main advice would be ; wedges.

The cobbled streets up the steep walk to the church were a bugger!

August in Sorrento will be hot, possibly brutally hot. We had our honeymoon in Emilia-Romagna 3 years ago and it was 38-40 degrees every day. If it wasn't natural fibres, basically it didn't get worn. Going to the coast didn't make it cooler either.

Last year we tried again with Umbria in August and it was better but then the Italians told us they were having a terrible summer.

I'd really try to avoid anything polyester.
