Petroleum jelly for nail growth - testers needed!

I have a tub of pound shop petroleum jelly which is the same as vaseline brand.

I sometimes use it on eyelashes and eyebrows overnight as it gives them a boost and on my daughter and I both notice that our lashes grow quicker and fuller.

Recently I got too much jelly out of the tub and rubbed the excess into the end of my finger. The next morning it was noticeable that the nail looked better than the others.

For a week I have now been rubbing a teeny tiny amount into my finger nails, cuticle and surrounding skin. The nail growth seems to have accelerated and my nails are strong, flexible and have a healthy sheen in their natural state.

Does anyone else rub petroleum jelly into their finger nails and get great results?

Anyone want to test it for a week and see if their nails grow faster/look better?

Interesting! But maybe it's the massage? I will be your control group and just rub my nails with nothing. How many times a day do you do it?

I have always used hand cream, so it's not the massaging effect as my nails are massaged regularly every day.

For one week I have used a tiny amount of petroleum jelly on my finger nails before bed each night and the that is the only thing I have done differently, and have seen a noticeable growth spurt and the condition of my nails in their natural state is remarkable.

It cannot be a coincidence, which is why I asked if anyone else wanted to try doing it to see if their nails grew quicker or their appearance improved.

I haven't worn nail polish during this time as for the last few weeks have been sporting a natural look with just using a white pencil under the tips.

After a week of using petroleum jelly my nails have a lovely buffed appearance which they didn't have before.

I'll give it a go then. But maybe just one hand so I can see.

Oh my nails are dreadful - I'm willing to try anything!

Well it's not something I use but my daughter has a little tin in her bedroom so I shall swipe it and start tonight.

My nails are reasonably ok. ... But there's always room for improvement!

I'll report back

Interesting....
My nails are flaky and not very strong. I found some Bert Bees hand salve in a draw yesterday and rubbed into my nails last night. Nails look better and feel stronger this morning. I was impressed....

So I'll use that (which I'm guessing is bee's wax based) for now, but will watch this thread with interest...

I use coconut oil, it works a treat. I suspect it's the massage that stimulates growth.

It took a week for my nails to be horribly split and flaky and raggedy cuticles to strong nails. Amazing!

I spend a few seconds on putting the petroleum jelly on, so it definitely isn't the massaging that has stimulated the growth and improved the condition.

My nails are in good condition but using the jelly has super improved them!

You know when you get a manicure and they buff your nails? This is how my nails look! Like I have just had them professionally done.

I would be interested to see if anyone else sees a difference. My daughter usually has faster nail growth than I and we are surprised to see that mine have grown more in the last week, just by using a dab of petroleum jelly.

I am happy to give it a go - I have tried coconut oil but it hasn't made any difference, although I find it great on my face as a cleanser.

I'll give it a go as my nails are shit at the moment.

I'm happy to give it a go. Is it just once and ideally at night? Would love nice buffed nails x

Yes, I've done this forever with Vaseline (on eyelashes and eyebrows too).
Works very well, especially on raggy cuticles.

Disclaimer: growing up Vaseline and Vicks vapour rub were deemed to cure just about any illness/health problem known to mankind in our house.

I'll give it a go. My nails are pretty strong but occasionally go through phases of flaking, which they are doing now. Will try it on my rubbish stump eyelashes too!

I will definitely try this as my nails have gone to pot! Flaking and splitting like billy-o, they are a real mess.

I don't know about my nails but my skin used to look better and healthier around my nails when I rubbed it with petroleum jelly. A fried of mine (male!) used to rub it on his face and keep a small tub in his pocket at all times, never did work out why!

I thought this was quite well known. My a Granny told me on about 1980!

Stump was supposed to say stumpy. Should preview my posts...

Actually the skin around my nails is dry and scratchy at the moment, maybe the vaseline will help with that too.

BikerunSki,

I have heard of the benefits of petroleum jelly on eyelashes and lips but never for nails until now.

I use hand cream so can't say whether the jelly will help with hangnails or dry skin on fingertips, but the actual nails look fantastic after applying it once a day.

I had gel nails for years and then approximately a year ago I gave them up. My nails have been ok and I have contemplated going back to using gel nails again.

The petroleum jelly has made an incredible difference and my nails look fantastic. They feel strong yet flexible.

I can't understand how it works but they have definitely grown faster! I am an old cynic about most things but my daughter has commentated on the faster rate of nail growth.

I would love to hear how anyone else gas got on with it.

I have not changed anything else in my beauty regime or anything I have consumed so can only account for the use of the jelly working a miracle!

I wonder if it locks in the moisture as it forms a barrier therefore hydrating the nails and making then less likely to split?

You might be on to something there Dame, I'm on day 3 now and they look better already.
