Posh outfit for fat bird

ok - so I am size 24, 5ft9 and need an outfit for a garden party type event this March. It will be indoors. Where / what / how? Budget £200ish.

Please help - not sure standard outfit of jeans and nasty fleece will suffice.

My mum is a similar size and she would go for a maxi dress in a lush fabric and a cardigan.

Look on Anna Scholz website, she ha ssome garish colours/prints but in amongst that are some nice timeless pieces. She was my go to when I was a size 24. Unforutnatley I just donated all my bigger stuff to my sister and to the charity shop, otherwise I probably would have had something you could have worn.

The Anna Scholz double silk dresses are amazing, worth paying that little bit extra for.

Lady V London do plus sizes that work for bigger women. I find that as an apple shape I need to buy up a size and take in under the arms but this is just simply a dart at the armhole or a short bolero top instead.

I love that Eliza J dress Mrs Lettuce linked to - sorry to hijack thread OP but am a size 18 going to a wedding inApril And need guidance desperately!
I'd prefer sleeves and a v-neck is great so that dress is perfect BUT is it too dark/heavy for an all-day wedding?
Tho will be outside a lot and think sleeves more flattering than a cardi?

Think the Eliza J dress looks lovely for a wedding but not really garden partyish.

Not a fan of Simply Be myself - think their stuff looks a bit cheap- but that's just me - see what you think.

Have had three dresses made for weddings in last year by Carolyn de la Drapiere, who I first saw recommended here. (Sorry, can't do links on phone). V. pleased with them but over £200 alas.

I was going to suggest Lady V too. Like Slug I have to take in under the arms so go for sleeveless (easier to take in) and wear with a fine knit cardi or a jacket.

Also you don't have to do the full petticoat fifties look, they are fine without.

That black lace dress is gorgeous. And you could accessorise with absolutely any colour.
OP please don't go for a maxi dress. I know a lot of people seem to like them but they look absolutely awful usually on bigger women. And certainly not formal.

Yes, Navabi is a good idea - they have a wide choice.

I've never had anything successful from Anna Scholz at all. Many of her things are garish and those I have tried haven't fitted right or haven't been of good quality - particularly for her very high prices.

Can you give any more details of the party, OP?

It's indoors so not literally a garden party - unless perhaps it's in a conservatory/orangery?

Time of day? Type of venue? Occasion, eg birthday? Dress code on invite? Other guests ( family, work, age-group, etc). All would help us suggest.

havent had a chance to have a look at the links yet - sorry but polyhymia details are - afternoon in a hotel with a garden 2 -6. Its an award cereony with dignatories. If its nice weather then tea with champagne etc etc will be held outisde, if not inside with doors opening out. The event when held in the summer is full on garden party aka bukingham palace styley. Dresscode was lounge suits - whatever that means!
