Is there an option to have the app on a dark theme so that threads have a black screen instead of white? If not, can we please have one so I can read MN whilst feeding my child at 4am without lighting up the room. Grin

I was just thinking about the same thing! I've just switched my phone to dark mode in settings but it is totally pointless when I then open up the MN app with its white background.

If you are on an Apple device could you change your settings yourself? I'm sure I've seen that option on my phone. Although maybe doesn't work on MN?
NigellaSeed · 27/08/2021 04:40

Yeah I've got dark theme switched on (android). Thanks for the suggestion :)

You could try colour inversion instead of dark theme. Does make the images look spooky though.

Willowkins · 27/08/2021 05:01

Also you could try your phone's nightlight (turns page slightly orange) while waiting for MN to sort this out.

NigellaSeed · 27/08/2021 07:37

Ah thank you, I'll try the night light xx

It looks like the settings on your devices have sorted this issue for you, OP but if we can help with anything else then do let us know. Flowers

NigellaSeed · 27/08/2021 19:13

Thank you. Maybe having MN app compatible with a phones dark theme could be something for a future update. Less dazzling white on those dreaded night feeds. Cho XXX

@NigellaSeed it's an excellent suggestion. We'll pass on to the developers and will let you know what they say. Pleased that we're keeping you company for the 4am feeds though. Grin

NutellaEllaElla · 28/08/2021 15:37

Agreed that we need a dark theme setting please x

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 28/08/2021 15:43

Definitely need a dark mode.

SamVimesFavouriteDragon · 28/08/2021 16:09

Yes to this! Great idea

RogersVideo · 28/08/2021 16:12

Yes this has been mentioned by users before, a dark mode would be brilliant.

msssm · 28/08/2021 16:19

Fantastic idea. Yes please. The bright white of mumsnet does nothing to help insomnia.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 31/08/2021 10:39

Thanks for all the feedback - dark mode has been added to the list and we'll update you when we know more.

NigellaSeed · 31/08/2021 11:08

That's great, thanks Star

Oh for Petes sake I did a thread search for exactly this and it didn't come up in the results! Blush glad to hear it's on the list! Looking forward to the update.

Just to add, if any of you are using iPhones you can use the 'Smart Invert' feature.

With older iPhone models you can triple-click the home button to invert the colours - essentially, the screen turns black with white text and coloured usernames.

With newer iPhones you can still triple-click the home key and then select 'Smart Invert'. If that doesn't work, try opening Settings, then Display & Text Size, then toggling the Smart Invert button.

Hope that helps some of you. Smile

Anycolourwilldo · 09/09/2021 15:53

Smart Invert can also be found in accessibility (newer iPhone models)

Anycolourwilldo · 09/09/2021 15:54

You can search for 'smart invert' in your settings
