If we can’t ask about whether or not a given thread was really as per deletion message ‘not in the spirit’ here, then where is the board for that?

I thought ‘thread about a thread’ meant ‘stop gossiping about the trainwreck/troll we’ve deleted’, not ‘thread deletions may never be discussed’?

Ive wondered this many a time.

Trolls are out in force tonight.

Wasn’t a troll thread this time. Was a humour thread that mods it seemed did not find amusing.

(I am of course assuming I can’t say which thread it actually was, in case this gets deleted for being a thread about a thread about a thread.)

The deleted thread in site stuff was a pretty obvious TAAT, which we don't allow.

The original thread was deleted because it received a lot of reports - and we didn't think it was in the spirit of the site.

So you’re saying we are not supposed to ask ever about why a thread was deleted, even on Site Stuff? Is Site Stuff just for tech problems?

It seems like it’s a bit tricky to determine what counts as ‘not in the spirit of the site’, if any questions about it get zapped for being a thread about a thread.

We're always happy to clarify deletions, but there's a few reasons we don't allow threads about threads. We think our moderation can be queried without making a TAAT (like this thread) - and we're always happy to clarify off the boards, too.

The original thread was removed because it wasn't in the spirit of the site. We promote our site as being 'by parents, for parents' and we'd very much hope that included all parents. (It was just that, when we were choosing a name for the site, 'Parentsnet' didn't really fall off the tongue in the same kind of way.) And, actually, we do have a fair few members who are not parents at all, either because they are pregnant or hoping to become pregnant soon or, they are interested in our discussions and wish to reflect their own viewpoint.

But how can it be queried on the boards? What should I have done here to ask about a thread, without being deleted for starting a thread about a thread?

I genuinely thought the answer was “keep moderation questions to Site Stuff” but now it seems that Site Stuff is the wrong board?

You can message MNHQ and ask them to explain. They always come back and say why they deleted it, but ultimately, it's their site so they can delete what they want.

Yes, I know I can ask off the boards. I’m interested in where/how I can ask on the boards, as LilyMumsnet suggested is possible.
