The Archers #109: Pulp Fiction! Hammer Horror (Tracy), Carry On (Brian & Neil), Call the Midwife (Adam, Ian, Lexi) - but no political thrillers, Ambridge remains Brexit-free. Nitpick here!

Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from //www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: //www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to Bucking Frolics and LillianGish for the title ideas, which I had to edit down a bit to get under the character limit.

I wonder if Lily will have gone back to Manchester by the time we've filled this thread.

I don't see why Emma can't have any empathy with Will though I've have had to talk someone down from stabbing their self

(BTW I don't think we are that far apart either)

But was the person you talked down your exp partner, part of a family you still belong to and the parent of your child? Would you have been happy letting them have your child just a few days later?

Emma isn't just in shock herself - remember she thought Poppy was in the house when she first went in. There is no way I'd leave my child with someone in that state without medical/other advice first.
She has to prioritise the welfare of the children not least because neither Will nor the Grundys have been doing that. Clarrie has tried but when it comes to the crunch she reinforces Will's perceptions every time.

So what they have done is make him as immediate an appointment as they can get with a doctor. I don't think that is covering it up; I think that is taking the first step in a very long process

The covering up is the Grundys trying to guilt Emma into keeping it all quiet and behave as if nothing has happened. Ed didn't go to see if Emma was ok, he went to make sure she kept her mouth shut as if he has a broken arm instead of a mental health breakdown.

This is all on the back of Ed sabotaging the house move and dumping her. Not sure I'd want much to do with the Grundys after that.

Will's rights of access are irrelevant. Its about George's rights to access Will and he has been refusing whilst Emma was trying to foster the relationship. Emma has fostered that relationship for years, rather more than Will since they got past the whole Emma/WIll/Ed triangle.

"Never" I'd assumed was in her current state of mind. I don't think she is being unreasonable in her short term reaction. If she tried to block teh relationship after Will has help and treatment it would be different.

What is the likelihood of Will fessing up to shot gun suicide attempt? I'd say zero. If he just tells the doctor he feels a bit down then he won't get the intervention or help he needs.

In the last few weeks Emma has discovered that:
-Ed was doing dodgy things with Timotei
-Will knew about it, and covered it up until he blurted it out to Adam
-Nic killed Matt
-Ed knew about it, and covered it up.

That's in addition to Ed sabotaging the house purchase & dumping her and Will making a move on her.
Why would she want anything to do with them. What else has been going on that she knows nothing about?

Thanks for the new thread Gasp0de

I don't know what fuss is. Hit and run is never a big deal in Ambridge. A pissed up but fiercely independent Helen runs over Mike and drives away. What happened? , Pat bullied poor Tom into taking responsibility and lying to the police. Never mentioned again.

Thanks Gasp0de

IIRC, Bev still works, doesn't she? So how come she's magically available for every school drop off & pick up at the drop of a hat? As well as all the evenings and weekends. I don't think she has a partner that we know of (and, given the circumstances, it would be odd if she was with Nic's dad and we hadn't heard), or any other adult kids around (trying to trawl through from when Nic died, but I can't remember any other close family mentioned).

Either she's fallen back on Andrew (not related to Poppy), Jake and Mia (still children, and a major reason Mia isn't with Will was all the childcare that suddenly fell on her), or given up her job (then how will she support Poppy?), or there's something else dodgy going on (maybe she's farmed childcare out to various friends?). It just doesn't add up ... unless the SWs haven't put any thought into it at all. Shock

If they even get him to agree to go, once the appointment is made.

Unlike anyone else in the village, Will needs a shotgun licence for his work, and if he's not mentally well, he'll lose the licence and therefore his job and his tied housing that comes with the job. I can't see Martin Gibson being a model of understanding and good practice for managing mental health at work sensitively and effectively. Pete the sacked-but-helpful under-keeper may be more supportive, but I don't think he's in a position to do much, except step into the head keeper shoes while Will can't work, which would probably just show Will he was right to sack him, because he was after his job all along.

Thanks for the new thread.

I seem to remember that Ed and Jazzer had form for joy-riding in their youth.

Not content with this, Ed "borrowed" William's car and ended up having to drag Emma out from the burning wreckage (having encountered a deer at high speed).

I assume if she is stopping William seeing his son then she won't be accepting/expecting any continued financial support from Will.
On the way back today I actually cheered when Ed told Emma that they should bear some responsibility for Will's position, ultimately she and Ed started all this many years ago.

At the time of Nic‘s funeral there was a brother talked about. Apparently he couldn’t be there bc he had a new job somewhere antipodean. I just remember wondering if that’s normal for a sib‘s sudden death at a young age, even if you’re on the other side of the world. Maybe they hated each other!,

How realistic is it to acquire 400 acres of land in the next 4 months? Especially if it's all got to be in the Ambridge area... Hmm

Well that was fun. Can't believe the rewilding was successful when it's so clearly all brown boots and no breakfast. And Peggy's idea of project timescales was rather awkward.

In terms of the Pip fallout, they're just replaying storylines gone by. Phil fell out with Dan about the future of Brookfield and went to work for Fairbrother to try out new ideas, David went to work for Brian I think it was, now doubtless Pip will end up with Adam.

And how rich was it for Ruth to complain they might have to hire a herdperson. Surely they are paying Pip so what difference would that make?

I can't be the only one who was mentally filling in the next line after Peggy's King Lear-like strings attached deal: We are so fucked.:o

But how swiftly Pip has finessed this into use of Brookfield. I hope Ruth sticks to her guns on this one.

I don't think Ruth would cut her pay, though she should.

Thanks for the new thread. I’ve not listened tonight yet but have always liked Ruth, although that’s not been a popular opinion on here.
The SWs are aware schools are going back this week, as there was mention of homework on Monday. Although I don’t know anyone whose kids actually went back on Monday.

I haven't heard tonight's episode. Is this for the re-wilding? 400 acres of land in Borsetshire will be around £2.8 to £3.2 million.

I definitely think the Grundies are trying to cover things up. Or at least keep things under wraps whilst they make a plan but I can't see them volunteering information that will destroy will's livelihood and home. I can hardly bear any of this. How have I made it through Nic and Jim to this. None of it is enjoyable listening anymore. I don't feel able to tune in around my children these days.
