IKEA sink panic!

We had planned to go to ikea next weekend to pick up the sink and unit. Fell pfor the Domsjo double ceramic (shallow butler type). However went online to check the dimensions and it appears that they no longer sell them. The new kitchen catalogue is out for 2015 and has pictures of this sink but you cannot buy it!! I have been madly googling similar sinks and £££££. Does anyone have an idea where I can get a similar sink for under £200? Liked the fact that it backed right into the wall so no worktop went round the back - esp as we are having wood. Any help much appreciated!

If there was anything similar then the Ikea one wouldn't have been so popular I suppose. I wonder have they had manufacturing problems. Could you use a normal double 800 Belfast sink mounted higher and with a tiled or granite shelf set behind?

Ggrrrrrrr! Wish I could nip over to the US and get one! The linked one does look similar on the appliance website, but doesn't go all the way back to wall. Typical.... I have spent the best part of a year making decisions based on this sink now can't find one unless spending £400-£500 which is way out of the budget. Back to googling and pestering Ikea with emails!

If it's any consolation the bit at the back is a PITA, dh can't work out how to do any sort of splashback thing because of the curved edge against the wall so he's procrastinating because he's terrified of bodging the line of tiles.

It is a lovely sink (one on eBay going for over £400! ) but marks really easily and I'm not keen on having no drainer, we've chipped lots of cups and plates since we got it, and even though it's shallower than a Belfast sink it's still too low and hurts my back.

(Hey, if I carry on like this I'll persuade myself I hate it and you can have mine )

Ha! Now I am beginning to question AGAIN why I don't need a draining board. Was thinking as I would have two sinks I could make do, or get one of those slot in drainers. Does anyone know of a "normal" ceramic sink that has a back bit or tap ledge? So it spans the whole width of the counter Iyswim! I have been trawling and can't find anything! Worrying about having a normal one on oak work tops that I have already bought!

There used to be an Astracast one - a bit of a beast here, or this (similar versions from several suppliers) also a beast. I looked at sinks for months before ending up with the Ikea one. Could you go stainless steel with an Astracast Bistro or similar?

iron? It looks quite deep front to back so could be put against the wall.
The bit of worktop at the back will be more vulnerable to wetting than the front.

nice sinks Iggymama! I thought I had 'done' the ceramic-sinks-on-wooden-worktop research but I hadn't come across any of those! I think they are more expensive than the OP is looking for though.

My suggestion also might not help the OP (it doesn't go all the way back) but might be of use to other sink searchers. We were looking at ceramic sinks for the wooden worktop (including toying with the Ikea one) and found the beauties on this page, we're going to get one of the Lansdowne ones with a wooden drainer:

The Corecast one towards the bottom of the page is only £235 but DH vetoed it as he wanted 'proper' ceramic.

My reckoning is that as long as the taps sprout out from the sink (rather than sprouting out from the wood) then they are likely to be relatively okay for the wood (we have a dishwasher) if you are careful with wiping.

I found another sink (Belfast type I think) where the taps sprout out from the corner of the sink (and could probably locate it again if anyone is interested) but that was at the £600/700 mark.

Crap, what bad news. We put one in over the summer. Total bugger to install in a non Ikea base unit if it's any consolation and the kitchen dude had a mare as the connections aren't standard UK widths either. BUT we had oak behind an old Belfast sink and it was rotting in under a year so avoid, avoid, avoid if you can.
Kitchen chap suggested putting in standard double sink instead as at least the taps would come through the metal. In the end he bodged it in though and it's fine. He had to cut down a cupboard and doors and all sorts though.

You can buy anything from the ikea kitchen range but you have to telephone and order directly. We bought a kitchen from the old range about 2 months before they discontinued it and brought in the new line. When we came to have it fitted three months more down the line we found there were lots of little bits and pieces we hadn't thought we'd need. We ordered them and they all arrived within a few days. The postage is hefty but actually they were all in stock in the UK warehouse.

The other option is to telephone the stores. We found that something we needed was actually in stock in about five stores even though it shouldn't have been. If they have the stock they keep it in for a while.

I have two double domsjo sinks, one in the kitchen and one in the utility room. In both I use one sink as a draining board so although it looks nice it's not necessarily the best option.

This. I can't remember what it was now but I had the same issue last year with another product. It helpfully popped up again a week later when I was trying to demonstrate to DH that it was no longer an option.

Tried calling ikea and 30 min wait so emailed and they replied saying that they have bought out new stock but they will be selling limited supplies of this sink until Jan. can't see this is going to be easy! Have now fallen in love with the Villory and boch one. Has three sinks a double and a small one at the back. A friend who does house renovations has ways of getting one for under £300. I reckon the extra £126 will be worth it if there is no stress!!!

Think I will just have to buy one as soon as I see it in Ikea and then if the kitchen can't/won't take it, I'll sell it for mucho money on ebay on.

Just be aware that ikea units are odd sizes and so the domsjo one fits perfectly. A different brand will not fit.

Also, if buying a domsjo elsewhere (i.e. ebay) be aware that the old domsjo double sink is a different size to the new domsjo double sink. Why they couldn't have called it something else I really don't know. As a result if you buy a domsjo double sink from ebay there's a pretty good chance it will be old stock and won't fit your domsjo base unit.

We use the slot in drainer btw but also have a dishwasher. It's ludicrously small if you plan to wash up for a family of 4 in it after every meal.
