Primary school places - waiting room for anxious parents !

When does everyone find out where their dc have been allocated a place ?

Very nervous waiting going on here as we have applied to dc1's school for a place for dc2 even though we are out of catchment but because the order of preference rules have changed siblings out of catchment no longer have priority over children within catchment (The school wasn't that popular when we applied for dc1 but has been over subscribed for the last 2 years).

Dreading having to be in 2 places at once on the school run if dc2 doesn't get in.

Off to check the LEA website for date of notification of places but it is deffo March sometime.

We find out on 21st April, which seems very late to me.

We find out on friday April 8th, have opted for email notification which usually means getting it around 4pm of that day, letters are posted same day l think.

Have applied for DD to go to my DS' school, he will be going into year two next year, l really hope we get in if not l just don't know how l will get across town to another drop off and pick up ??

Its a CofE school so always way over subscribed as parents are willing to drive from all over to get here, we are luckily within half a mile of the school, but are not all that consistent with church going. So fingers crossed everybody.

We find out on April 15th I think - am waiting nervously as although it should run smoothly you hear so many horror stories.

I have applied for a place for DS2 at the same school DS1 attends.DS2 has SN and they have alreday started his transition and bid for funding for his LSA so I am hoping that will make it easier.

Our LA have changed all the schools into a one point intake and competition seems to be big for the good school in our area rather than the other two.

April 4th for us. It should be straightforward - we want DS2 to go to the same school as DS1, and although we are relatively far from the school, siblings are given priority. I've not given much thought to what would happen if he didn't get in!

It's so unfair that they don't have the sibling rule in you LEA anymore :(

Our letters are posted April 28th Hmm. Guessing there won't be any post on 29th as it's a bank holiday now, so I've signed up to get it by email.

Ours are posted on 28th too Bramshott - shouldn't ba a problem for dd2 as we should get in under sibling priority....as long as I filled the form in correctly......

Am feeling nervous too which is ridiculous as I'm pretty sure we live in the catchment area and DS already goes there.

The thing that is making me nervous is that all the others at the NCT group got forms through the post and we didn't, ended up finding an online form and am now paranoid that they will have missed her out in some way.

Have now found out that we won't know until late April, whereas with dc1 it was March. Oh God, my nerves are going to be in tatters by then, just the thought of all the hassle with dcs at different schools.

Local public sector workers must be on a go slow or something as they have been out with placards protesting over pay freezes and job cuts recently (as if the the rest of us private sector hasn't been through the same over the last 2 years and with still more to come !)

JiltedJohnsJulie - loads of people in my area didn't get letters either (I did, but in minority it seems), it won't matter, just as long as you filled in the application. You do worry though, I logged onto my online account just to check I really had submitted the application as I did it on 2nd Sept and I just wanted to check as it's so long ago!

My DD2 should be fine, out of catchment, but DD1's at the school and siblings now take priority over catchment. Lucky for us as there are 28 at preschool and I know of a couple of siblings who don't attend preschool, so I think there may be a few who don't get in!

That's good to know thank you. Have just looked at the booklet online and it seems that siblings now have a priority over catchment children in our area too, so really can't see a reason why she won't get in.

Unfortunately though they aren't offering places until 29 April so we still have a good wait.

You'll be fine then, but it'll be good to know for sure.

We don't find out until 29th April either - wonder if you're in the same LEA!

26 April here. Having wobbles about the order of 1st and 2nd choices though as there have been problems with the Head at our 1st choice since we applied.

15th April here too. I am worried as the sibling rule is no longer top of the list but catchment is and we are out of it.

From reading this thread, I'm beginning to think that the LEAs take it in turns for having Siblings or Catchment first. Maybe they just flip a ooin, what do you think? Grin

April 4th here. Not too nervous, as sibling rule still in action at dds' school - but still will be nice to get that confirmation!

26th April for us - we did online so will receive an email. Should have no problem with first choice school as have sibling in school. Second choice school is across the road and finished 5 minutes earlier.

We find out on the 7th April, via email. Am dreading it as our most local schools are awful, and after unsuccessfully attempting to move out of the area before the application deadline, we are just biting our nails and hoping one of the other 6 not so near schools will accept our daughter!
There is a very good (very over subscribed) Catholic school just up the road from us, but we are not catholic and not baptised in any faith, so not really holding out much hope for it.
There is sibling rule in our area, however this will be our first child going to school... another starting next september and pregnant with number 3.

Does anyone know about the appeal process? Can I say no because the school is bad or do I have to give a better reason. Our two most local schools are awful and their Ofsted reports for the past few years have been shocking. The staff turn over is very high too. Will be devestated if that is where they allocate her a place. Sad

12th April and waiting... we are 550m from school and there is a real chance we won't get DS1 in as there are a lot of siblings for the 60 intake this year and last years cut off was 600m for new children! Been told over 120 put down for 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice. Just want to know what's what so I can arrange childcare arrangements around work... EEK!
