It's a genuine question - at what age does a girl wear the what i would call traditional muslim dress? is it a jihab? I saw a woman in town today, she was wearing one, and she had two girls with her, one looked about 13/14 she was wearing one, yet the toddler was wearing jeans and a top.
Also, does the girls parents decide for her, can she say "no, I've chosen not to wear a full jihab (sorry if thats hte wrong name)

The girls should cover when they reach puberty i.e get their periods. Islam requires all women to cover but you can choose not to cover - its an individual choice. However, some parents don't always listen to the request of the daughters but thats a parental issue rather than Islam! lol!!

Got all my dates to hand, but won't be fasting until Aunt Flo has left (you don't fast when you have a period) so not for a few days yet....

Ooooh....now everyone on mnet knows Aunt Flo is in town! lol!!

Hijab, it's worn once a girl hits maturity. You are supposed ot get say in whether you wear the hijab or not. in my family I'm the only one who wears the hijab my sisters dont it's their choice they are answerable for their actions not me.

Otoh, my dd's both wear hijab, this is not thro coercion on my part, but because they want to be like mummy, they are old enough to decide for themselves I expect.

Dh is pretty against the hijaab- actually I've found a lot of fmailies are, they're scared if the women in their family wear the hijaab they'll be thoguht ot be 'extermists/terrorists/stupid or all of the above.
Dh doesn't have much say in what I wear I tend to wear it full stop.

Happy Ramadan everyone. Yep samosas are at the ready! Looking forward to my first ramadan at home and not working thanks to being on maternity leave.

Re hijab, I started wearing it properly when I was about 16. I have a 12 year old DD who doesnt seem too keen on it at the moment, Im sure she will wear it when she feels ready to. Not going to pressure her though I want to her to understand the reasons for wearing it rather then wear it cuz shes been told to.

No they didn't at all, my dad is rather proud of the fact i do wear hijaab, but I only recently discovered this when my sister told me in passing something he'd said ot her about me.

My sisters dont observe the hijaab and nobody has said anytih to them either, two of them want to but are scared.

I was actually picked on for my hijab by other muslim girls at school as apposed to any of my non-muslim friends who could care less.

I've booked leave for the last two weeks of Ramadan, till then I have suhoor, the school run and work...... Any bets as to how long I last???

I wear the full islamic dress, as in the khimaar (head-covering), and jilbab.
I've been wearing it for around 9 years now. I don't have any daughters though so can't answer about though. I have a niece who is five years old, she wears it sometimes, but in the way little girls decide to wear a favourite top, or want to be like Mummy.

I don't even know how to make samosas, I buy themready-made, to my shame!
I don't even work!
My favourite evening meal is Ramadhan, is one I don't have to cook! It is hard cooking when you can't eat it!
