When did Jesus actually die?

Can someone point me in the right direction?
We know that Jesus was crucified on Good Friday and he rose from the dead on Easter Sunday.
Then what happened? When and how did he finally die?

Have you tried the Bible? I understand that there are a couple of bits in the gospels about that, although I think they talk about it in terms of Passover, rather than Good Friday/Easter Sunday.

Same time as Cinderella.

Although according to the Bible he ascended to heaven, which will be marked on your calendar as Ascension. This year it's on 10th May.

He didn't, he ascended into heaven at some point. There's the feast of the ascension, try googling that. That's all I remember from my enforced years of catholic education!

Sorry, hit post too soon.
He walked among his disciples/ followers for 40 days first. So Ascension is 40 days after Easter Sunday.

Thanks for your replies. I was wondering where in the bible it is written about asending into heaven.
I have just started going back to church after a long while away, I thought Easter was a good time to start and I'm not very knowledgeable about the bible. I'm hoping to start the Alpha Course soon.

The Book of Acts, Chapter 1, describes the Ascension in the most detail.

He didn't die, he was never actually born. There is no evidence of his existence outside the Bible.

Even in the Bible, as you say, he didn't actually die. Here merely had a weekend off for our sins...

There’s loads of independent evidence that Jesus lived Confused
You can query the religious/son of god part but there’s plenty of documents describing his life - there’s actually no doubt at all

There is evidence outside the Bible he existed CardinalSin. I'm not a believer but I don't have a problem believing he was an actual person.

Have a read of one of the Gospels (eyewitness accounts) ie Matthew Mark Luke or John (Mark is the shortest!) on Bible Gateway...you can find it on a Google search. The NIV is a good translation to read it in and is the most common translation used in churches. I hope you really enjoy the Alpha course.

That’s not true, Laurie. Lots of references to the existence of Christians, yes, but outside of Christian sources, there are two references in Josephus, one usually now seen as a later interpolation, and a reference in Tacitus.

May have got this completely wrong then but I always thought Jesus was crucified on Thursday, died on Friday and rose from the dead on Sunday

Come on then - show me this "evidence" outside of the bible. It simply isn't there.

Christian's believe that he still lives. He was resurrected as an eternal being.
We hope for life eternal with Him.

I don’t need to show you the evidence Cardinal - I just needed to point you in the direction of the massive nob head Dawkins Grin

If there was any doubt about the historical figure of Jesus an itinerant preacher he’d be wanking about it in his books and he’d never shut the fuck up.

The Ascension is recorded in Acts chapter1.

Pretty much no historians think there wasn’t a historical Jesus - they apply the same tests for historical evidence gathering. Pilate existed, as did Jesus

He was arrested on the Thursday evening, tried, crucified and died on the Friday and rose on the Sunday.

Have a read of one of the Gospels (eyewitness accounts)

Marks Gospel may have been an eye witness account. It is the oldest of the NT Gospels, written around 64AD. He was an associate of St Peter and it's thought a lot of the gospel comes from him. The other Gospels were written later.

Apparently the Vatican holds supposed Gospels from other people, some around at the time of Jesus but it considers the 4 on the bible to be the most accurate.

As an aetheist, I belive that Jesus existed as real person and treat him as a person with important things to say about the world. He proposed a philosophy that is worthy of study, but I reject his being the son of God. Surely most of the things that happened 2,000 years ago are to be taken as a belief rather than a fact?

Laurie

Read that wikipedia article carefully. See who it quotes. All the statements that say 'there is no doubt Jesus existed', or words to that effect are Biblical scholars. No bias there then...🤔

If you read unbiased sources, there is literally no contemporary evidence for the existence of Jesus. Every single source that mentions him, even the non biblical sources (Tacitus and the other one whose name escapes me) were written after the factby people who never claim to have actually met Jesus.

GayAllen · 07/03/2018 17:05

It’s by no means certain that he existed at all.
