So, DH hasn't had a bath in 5 years...

Would put this in AIBU, but I know I'm not BU

He cannot understand why I think it's utterly that he hasn't had a bath or shower in 5 years. He thinks a good wash suffices I don't think it does!

How on Earth can I convince him? I shower once a day, and like to bathe the DD's at least every other day. How often do your DP/H's have a bath/shower?

there was a man at the care home I worked at a few years ago who'd live there for 7yrs, he had dementia and point blank refused to shower or bath. So for 7yrs he'd been having a strip wash every day......he didn't smell....

Oh don't say it's a troll.

DH baths or showers once a day, occasionally will skip a day and sometimes if doing dirty work will shower x2.

Does he smell??
Many people do survive or have to survive just with washing, due to lack of facilities or physical impairment.

it may be a trol..although not sure I'd be that happy not to namechange if my dh was a soap dodger

Oh no, really am NOT a troll. Promise. Am regular namechanging as I think it's a bit embarrasing to talk to anyone about this!!

He doesn't smell, but can get very bad BO as he does sweat a lot, which I think could be helped sometimes by a daily shower.

Not sure how good a wash it is as I'm not in the bathroom with him!

k, if you are not a troll, then, remind us all of the infamous 'kipper cock' thread .

Take Clearasil cleansing pad. Swipe over his back. If it comes off black, show him and raise a knowing eyebrow.

My grandfather didn't bath or shower for 40 years. He didn't smell and he lived to 93. he did wash though.

this one expat kipper cock

But surely he'd be quicker showering than washing himself at the sink. And what does he do about his hair? Or is he bald?

onepieceoflollipop · 09/09/2008 15:11

Ok, I didn't say (but I admit I did imply) that you were a little troll! Sorry I was wrong (but you didn't admit to being a namechanger til now)

Back to the subject, what is his reason for not having a shower or bath. Could it be some sort of psychological issue, phobia or similar? Were you with him when he was showering/bathing more regularly, i.e. over 5 years ago?

Does he go swimming or to the gym? If so would he avoid the showers then as well.

Hmm can't do 'kipper cock'. Can't believe I just typed that

I can think of - HappyDad, UCM, the weird one who wanted to go wateskiing 2 weeks post partum (or however long it was). Lots more but brain has gone blank under interrogation Expat

No problem, can understand why 'troll' would be cried!

He honestly, truly thinks that a wash is enough. I've tried to understand how he can wash his back properly (will try Clearasil pad thing I think!). He washes his hair in the sink.

Sqeaver - thats eactly what I've told him - turn shower on, jump in, 3-5 mins and you're done!

well if he is clean then that is fine

i couldnt be arsed not to have a shower

washing a t as ink is a performance and takes ages

and it means presumably that you never bath or shower together either so i would miss that too

"He doesn't smell, but can get very bad BO" - could you explain the differnce between the two, I'm stuggling with the fine distinction

Dh hasn't had a shower since we moved house almost a year ago. That's cos we haven't got one . However he only has a bath about once a month or so, just has a good wash the rest of the time (and washes his hair in the sink). He is a big man and finds it very uncomfortable in the bath. However he very rarely smells and is scrupulous about his personal hygiene as he works in an (overheated) office.

I don't think it's a problem tbh - unless he smells, then it is!
