Crocs -I know I am behind the times - are they nice or nasty?

My kids have crocs and I have always avoided them for myself until I found two friends who I wouldn't have dreamt to have had them wearing a pair (each!). I've ordered a chocolate pair of real crocs (£19) but am still not sure. Apparently they are v comfortable and soften your feet. I am going to France and thought that they would be good to travel in....

I don't have a pair but asked shop assistant in v reputable shoe shop about them and she said they were brilliant for the feet!

They are not stylish but they are so, so, so comfy.

Look absolutely ridiculous on grown ups but not bad on kids

I think they are great for children, but have to admit that I don't like them on adults.

However they are supposed to be very comfortale to wear.

Disgusting. I thought that the first time I saw them about 2 yrs ago and my opinion hasn't changed. A mono furry slipper is comfy. Comfy no excuse.

Of course some people are ridiculously vain and put style over comfort at all times (even when gardening and dog walking).

they are so comfy and look fine with certain clothes.I have a gold pair which my mum bought me and I live in them having initially thought i wouldn't wear them

When I was pregnant with my daughter I had terrible oedema and crocs (and big trainers) were the only shoes I could wear with any comfort...

4 yrs on, I still wear them ... and my daughter has a violent pink and purple pair...

They are the shell suit of the 21st century.

Mine are blue and floral and have really come into their own since I got preggers. Style goes outta the window for me at the mo, so long as I'm comfy I don't care! Shame they won't invent croc trousers cos I'm just sick n tired of all my waistbands digging into my bump!

They are truly ugly. The shellsuit / ra-ra skirt etc of our times. They might well be comfortable now but you will look back and wince that you ever wore such a horror.

Having said all that - they are absolutely fine on kids as are fairy wings / spiderman outfits and other things that look downright odd on adults.

Perhaps I should stick with the Birkenstocks and send them back. I hoped they could be good for the beach and the ferry but I do have flip flops!

can look cute on kids under 10.

On adults, laughable.

I have disastrous feet (for which even Birkenstocks can be a problem) and love crocs.

I look back on rara skirts with affection, miffymum! Although I wouldn't wear one now!

Having said that, lots of fashions look hideous when you look back on them - how did we get back to the '80s so quickly? Neon colours - especially those hideous sunglasses.

Fabulously comfortable and great to travel in or on the beach, but I agree they are not pretty!

In fact, there is no shoe that is more practical for the beach, IMO. There's definitely nothing else that you can put straight on while your feet are wet and sandy and not be uncomfortable.

I (possibly misguidedly) like to think that they don't look too bad as long as you don't go for a clownish combo of brightly coloured clashing crocs and clothes, which just makes you look like arty wacky mad lady.

I've got some dark grey ones which I only wear with black wide leg trousers, so they are partially concealed... I may be deluding myself about the fact that no one is sniggering - but at least my feet are comfortable.

Oh and they are even more comfortable with socks (black of course). So I'll go pack my 'fashion jail' bag now.

Maybe it's just me that winces at the photo of my pre-teen self with the ra-ra skirt. Eugh.

virtual shudder

Crocs on adults really are nasty though. I was introduced to a friend's neighbour who was wearing orange ones the other day. Poor man was a terribly sincere type and I couldn't take anything he said seriously.

oh no, men definitely can't get away with them...

Birkenstocks were the only thing I could get on my feet when I had swollen feet/ankles when pg. I hate those croc things! Euw!
