I need to change my passport from my maiden name to my married name (been married 9months and not done it yet ) as e have just brought a house and I need to send passport with correct name to solicitors.

Do I need to send my marriage certificate to prove my change of name ? I've lost the paperwork that comes with the application !

i've still not changed my passport from my maiden name to my married name! Been maried 2.5yrs. won't change it til pasport expires next year. Not planning on going away or needing it.

Am I breaking the law not to hold a pssport in my married name?

Won't your solicitor accept your old passport?

passport site here this

TheBlonde · 24/04/2007 10:37

BB- it's perfectly legal to hold it in your maiden name

burstingbug · 24/04/2007 10:39

Thanks, will hold off for another year

FoghornLeghorn · 24/04/2007 10:39

No because it's got to be the same name as on the mortgage details (which is my married name).
Have looked at that site and cannot find anything to help - think I may just send it anyway just to be on safe side, they will just return if they don't need, wont they ?

The only point you need to remember is if your passport is in your maiden name you MUST book your ticket in that name - otherwise you won't be allowed to travel.

Yes - you need your marriage cert to change your passport.

SueW · 24/04/2007 10:43

Can't you send your passport and marriage certificate to the solicitor rather than paying to get your passport changed?

portonovo · 24/04/2007 12:00

I'd do what SueW says - you don't NEED the passport, just to prove who you are. Current passport plus marriage certificate will prove your name change.

Many people don't even have passports.
