Mel I really feel for you with two DCs already, my DD is very demanding at the mo and I'm having to get DH to be at home more to help keep her occupied. Her constant 'mummies and sisters' role play is sweet but a bit unnerving in its frequency and intensity - and there are more and more babies each time! I also got ticked off for bringing her in to nursery 5 mins late this morning - nursery, for goodness sake! I had to report to the office .

Welcome twinmam . Mine (b/g) are five weeks and I'm trying not to wish the early days away so i can get some sleep. Just so much of a zombie and I look absolutely dreadful urgh.

MM, glad that you're enjoying it, the support makes a lot of difference.

I have a part-time nanny, she comes for the morning and afternoon school runs on Monday, then all day Weds and Fri when I have ds2 (23 months) as well. Plus my mum has ds2 on Tuesdays and does the school drop off/pick up for ds1 (five next month). I also have a homestart volunteer 2 hours a week. But then I do have 4 under 5! Help makes all the difference, trying to get twins out the door if you need to get somewhere is a nightmare (well it is for me at present) and another pair of hands enormously helpful.

mine are 4 - i shall keep my beady eye on you all! and FG is right - experience! pah! we claw our way through every day and rejoice when no one is in casulty and they are in bed at a decent time. Also alcohol is our friend (well it will be mine again in february!)

Ah found it. The new twin thread. My life line LOL, Hello ladies. It is a good new day with Obama as the future president of the U.S. (I am an expat from U.S.) and tried to stay up all night to watch the results on CNN. With pregnancy insomnia I thought it would be a breeze. I have been up till 5am last 3 nights. But of course there is no predicting the hormones. By 2a my body was begging me to go to bed and I lost the battle.

MY TAKE: For all the insomniac pregnant ladies, watch the rerun of the election coverage. It put me to sleep, may work on you.

Anjlix I am a Brit but still cried at the acceptance speech, which DH found hilarious (esp. the puppy bit). Not sure if it's PG hormones or just that I'm a soppy so and so!

Hi ya ladies - Love the new thread. Had my last day at work today and thanks to the double whammy pregnancy hormones, I sat at my desk which was full of pressies and cried!!!! Feel a bit of a plank now but there you go! I have so much lovely stuff but feel a bit shell shocked that it means I am having twins!! FGS I only have 8 weeks left you would have thought it had hit home by now!!

Anyway I have loads of stuff to sort out now I am on maternity leave, especially as the dts are due at Christmas! Better carry on shopping!

Pheonix everything is making me cry at the moment, never mind something genuinely personally touching. Every time my DD hears me sniff she asks me why I'm crying, how bad is that?! Welcome to maternity leave! I hope it's genuinely relaxing.

Neerly, the constant alcohol references on the d'y ever threads are one of the reasons I haven't immersed myself - pure torture . Roll on ... well, how long do I have to wait? If I manage to bf, it could be another 6 months. Ugh.

Hello! Just 'bookmarking' as they say...things still going well though went to docs today and they can't do anything for my rash except piriton and calamine. I am taking 6 piriton a day, and it still wakes me in the night in my few hours of sleep. Hope the babies are fine on it, they seem to be awake enough to feed plenty anyway. Anyone else experienced this? A midwife said can be a reaction to c-section. I did also have a rash before I gave birth, but it was totally different kind of rash. This one definitely looks like an allergy.

GBB I breast fed mine but still have the odd glass of wine. I asked a paediatrician and there is no recognised problem of mothers alcohol from breast milk causing a medical effect on a baby. Apparently it metabolises just like it does in your blood. I had a friend who went to a wedding and had granny looking after baby, She gave baby EBM and friend had a bender! She then expressed off the milk the next morning and threw it away to be sure.
TBH I don't much fancy too much vino collapso these days as it is sod's law that I'll be up in the night anyway. Ho hum.

Never fear, I am having the odd glass of wine too (isn't our mantra 'whatever gets you through?') - it's the odd bottle I'm missing . I remember the joys of a bender about 3 months in with DD, what I hadn't factored was having to express in a loo in the middle of the night at a friend's house to avoid boob explosion. And then having to throw that precious milk away. I wasn't sure it was worth the effort!

Hi Everyone,

Had to go to the doctor this morning to ask if she could listen to my tummy with the Doppler thingy as was convinced that something had happened to my babies. Had been using Cyclogest (progesterone) pessaries twice a day on IVF clinic's advice but specialist told me on Friday to halve the dosage. Since then my boobs have 'deflated' a bit, the veins on my tummy aren't as prominant and I became convinced that something 'bad' had happened. Does anyone else have experience of using progesterone during pregnancy?

Anyway, after bursting into tears and sobbing my way through the explanation of why I was there, she easily found all three heartbeats - all sounding strong, thank God!

Does anyone else out there freak out about pregnancy symptoms/changes in them? I can't believe how scared I can get in such a short time. Please tell me it's the hormones!!

Had another scan and apparently now the girls are 3lb 8 each which whilst I know is only a guestimate I am very very pleased with!

Also - announcement time...

Booked in for section on the 11th December (36 weeks).
I am so pleased that I have an end date that I actually feel 10 times better than I did at 9am this morning...chances of actually being home the weekend before christmas to get settled with dd is looking really good and generally I am now really pleased and happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

poorbuthappy first of all congrats, the end is near. I am curious to know though if there is any particular reason why you are getting a c-sec at 36 weeks. My consultant says that there is no way he is allowed to book a date before 37 weeks if all is going fine (whatever that means). I have id twins who share a single placenta. The guy at Fetal Medicine Center recommends C-sec at 35-36 weeks.

BarbarellaNz if it makes you feel any good, I feel like I am 100 times worse. It is progestrone and kids that have taken over you mind and body. Think about it, you are actually a minority in your own body .

Anjlix - apparently the current research says between 34-36 weeks. Although 1 of the research hospitals in Liverpool are now saying 32-34 weeks because of the risk of TTTS.

Apparently (and I will say that alot in this message to cover myself), the risk of TTTS has gone away more or less at the moment, and comes back with a vengance just before labour starts. The 1 example I was given was of a woman who was having fortnightly scans on her ID twins and was literally given the all clear 1 day, she went into labour naturally the following day and by the time she had the babies (can't remember if by section or not) there was already evidence of TTTS being present because the labour had brought it on.
Coupled with this is the fact that my dd was born at 37 weeks after I went into spontanuous labour so they are worried that these 2 will want to go into labour earlier than 36-37 weeks. Also dd was only 5lb 10 born which apparently (there we go again) suggests that as they approach the 5lb mark they will consider themselves ready to be born!

What I find odd about what you have posted is that the consultant says no way before 37 weeks and the fetal medicine centre says 35-36 weeks...whose right? Ultimately no one...

I'd love to say that I want to go full term, have a natural labour and birth etc etc but I just can't. As you say, we are all a minority in our own bodies (very good turn of phrase by the way) and not being able to sleep, eat or be comfortable is starting to get to me a little bit - and don't get me wrong I would never wish these babies out now cos they would be too little, but the risk of TTTS scares the living daylights out of me...
