Looks like we are going to need a wee Week 1 Spillover thread, before I start the Week 2 thread on Monday.

Here's the link to the original thread:

I feel so miserable. Coughing, sneezing, headache, sore throat, breathless, fever. I've given in and taken a honey and lemon strepsil. I hope as it was just one it won't put me out of ketosis.

I can't even stand up without my nose dripping copiously 😷🤧🤒

I'm not a good patient

Sorry you're not feeling well Beryl. Now that you've had it, I hope the honey and lemon strepsil has helped. If you're feverish, make sure to drink plenty of water.

Had a fey up for dinner tonight as I made celeriac rosti as my hash brown alternative. Grated celeriac and mixed with egg and parmesan. Made into rostis and fried until brown then baked for a bit as I made them in advance. Very nice with the eggs, sausages, bacon and a couple of tinned tomatoes.

Out for lunch tomorrow, have seen a menu but nothing particularly appealed. They do a cauliflower cheese but it probably has flour and at £9 I'm not sure I could face paying that for something I'd make better myself (I'm terrible in restaurants even when not LC!). Possibly steak and salad. They do salads but I want something hot. Maybe a roast without potatoes? I'm off to peruse the menu again...

That sounds horrible,Beryl. I hope you feel better soon.

We went out for dinner and I managed to not eat any prawn crackers, spring rolls or mint imperials, all of which I usually mindlessly eat. I realised it is much easier to simply not have any than it is to "just have one" only for that to escalate to another 30,000 and a 4lb weight gain.

Did ok today, despite the Nando's!
B: egg, bacon and sprouts Shock (actually quite delicious!)
L: broccoli & Stilton soup
D: Nando's olives and then half chicken with salad & coleslaw (which I ate less than half of)
S: pork scratchings, ff yogurt with the magic (and v.expensive!) vanilla powder and double cream

For full disclosure I ate one spoonful of my dd's frozen yogurt but I would normally eat a whole bowlful and I didn't finish her chips so I am still calling this a win!

G'day!

Someone was asking about the taste of cauliflower rice. If you make it yourself, I’ve found it’s surprisingly not a strong flavour, and will take on the flavour of other ingredients very well.

But I bought a packet of the branded stuff once - Cauli - and it had a really horrible taste. Not really sure what of! But I had to use a really strong curry sauce to mask the taste.

So the moral of the story is to do your own!

Speaking of cauliflower, I thought I’d share this recipe. I pretty much hate cauliflower, but I can tolerate it as rice when its flavour is fully camouflaged by something with a sauce. I wonder if all the other stuff in this would be enough to mask the cauliflower taste?

Tired placemark . Went out dancing tonight and didn't drink any alcohol! That's the first time I've done that in years. After my 8 pound weight loss I'm determined not to derail my diet. KOKO everyone 😀💜

Ooh a shiny new thread. I have to confess I didn't read anything posted after yesterday lunch time as my decrepit phone and terrible internet connection couldn't cope with the long thread.

Prettybird thanks for the encouragement earlier. Went out for dinner and althogh i ate my bodyweight in cheese I did manage to avoid carbs pretty well. Had charcuterie sharing starter (and didn't eat the baguette) then bouillebaisse (and didn't eat the baguette) followed by the cheese plate. Was stuffed by the end and it definitely wasn't low calorie but on a carb front of was good, right?! Not v bc but it's so rare we get a child free night and get to go out.

Thank you for the new thread Pretty’ .

Hope you feel better soon Beryl Flowers

Always’ that’s a fantastic start to your weight loss journey. The only pounds I’ve lost so far this week are out of my purse Grin . I have lost girth though as had to change my skirt yesterday as it was falling down Shock

Hi all, good to hear everyone doing well!
I feel so much better! The bloat has gone - I started on 27th Deember and so far am down 10lbs :)

The amazing thing for me is that the normally constant cravings and grazing are gone. My typical day's menu is:
Creamy coffee
Soup (buttered chicken or cheese / olives/ salad) or heated up leftovers
A proper low carb dinner

I am really hungry by dinner time, but the idea of not eating till lunchtime would have been impossible when I was eating carbs.

Today I'll have an omelette for breakfast, egg salad for lunch (with mayo) and then it's roast for dinner.
Have a good day everyone.

Thanks for the new thread

We’ve been away overnight for DD’s gala but the hotel breakfast was great so had bacon scrambled eggs and mushrooms. Put a bit of butter on the eggs as I thought it unlikely they’d been cooked in butter.

Hope everyone who is poorly is feeling a bit better today. Some fantastic whooshing already for lots of folk - awesome stuff! Considered my whoosh to be losing the Christmas gain before bootcamp began so will be happy with 1/2 pounds although I can’t weigh in until Tuesday

Is tahini (or even sesame seed) okay to use after two weeks?

Report
MaudesMum · 14/01/2018 09:01

Haven't had a drink so far this weekend, which is incredibly rare for me. It did mean I got through most of a box set of Happy Valley last night, but it also means I'm full of energy this Sunday morning! Food yesterday:
B: scrambled eggs and proscuitto
L: broccoli & blue cheese soup
s: finger of cheese
D: Roast belly of pork, LOTS of crackling, broccoli and celeriac mash

Report
prettybird · 14/01/2018 09:09

PennyMise - tahini and seeds in general are fine after 2 weeks.

I gave myself a pat on the back for not making my special low carb chicken nuggets on Friday night as they use ground almonds and flaxseed/linseed (along with Parmesan) and made for dh and ds with some breadcrumbs I had in the fridge.

But after the first 2 weeks, I'll be back to making them every 2nd Friday, to have as our Friday night threat with Cava. Smile (Alternate Fridays are curries - for which I'll make cauliflower rice).

Tricky day yesterday, was on a course and although I took my water bottle with me, I only drank about 500ml the whole day. Home made veg soup for lunch but didn’t have time to have a second cup. Then went to a friends for a cuppa who gave me a lump of cheese instead of a biscuit 😀 . Had scrambled eggs avocado and cheese when I got in as if I’d have taken any time to cook a proper meal I’d have given up and eaten cereal. Anyway, went to bed headachy and a little bit hungry. Still feel dehydrated.

Have measured out my 2l and will try to have extra today. Have lost 1lb but have been struggling with my insides (I have IBS) ☺️ Hoping that will settle down soon.

Well done everybody eating out - I’m not sure how I’ll resist the carby bits!

Morning. Thanks for the new thread pretty.

Celeriac rosti sounds good - I'm definitely going to try that. Have a bit of a thing for celeriac at the moment and there are three in the fridge, so need to find more ways of using them. Celeriac crisps are on the list too.

I've never bought cauliflower rice ready-prepared - I'm much too mean to spend the money when it's so much cheaper to make your own! I like to stir-fry it in butter with a teaspoon of chilli flakes - lovely as a side or as an easy meal in itself.

jumping - I replied to you at the end of the last thread (about DAFNE), but don't know if you saw it - I did the course four years ago, and it was such a revelation. Even after 20 years of being diabetic. It made sense of a lot of stuff I'd been trying to work out by trial and error; I'm so glad I got the chance to go on it.

What you all drink at the weekend instead of wine?

DH had some lovely wine last night and I had ginger tea but would like something a bit nicer next weekend. Found out I can have a martini when I am not on BC which is good -may drink some water and lemon out of a martini glass next week as everything tastes better out of a fancy glass 🍸

With cauliflower rice, I tend to blitz an entire one in a food processor and then freeze portions of it for use later - defrost it quickly in the microwave and then roast it, mixed with some olive oil, or make it vaguely moroccan as per one of Tom Kerridge's recipes...

Morning everyone - busy weekend here as it's DS1's birthday today and he had a party yesterday with a buffet platter - mountain of chips, pizza, chicken nuggets. Luckily 9 pre-teens made short work of it, and I had an omelette before so I wasn't hungry anyway. Halo

Last night I made Tom Kerridge's pastaless lasagne - omg, delicious! Why have I not had ricotta before? Yum. Birthday dinner tonight, I shall have the roast and veggies and no cake.
