January Fledglings - Resolve to Fly!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 31/12/2015 18:22

So, here we are at the start of 2016, poised with our control journals and ready to Fly for another year. New and old, all are welcome here, we loosely follow the principles of Flylady to manage our homes and lives, we also chat and lend an ear to whatever life throws at us.

We post links to the Flylady site each day throughout the month, with daily babysteps and missions inside that weeks zone. We also declutter. No links in this post, I'm on my phone and will do some separately, but it's time to get ready for 2016. A big thank you to everyone who has run the thread in 2015 and everyone who has contributed Wine.

Good morning my lovelies and welcome to 2016 Flowers

I am determined to start the year off with a bang and keep the house going in the right direction. I'm also start Cambridge next Friday so I want the decluttering and organisation and running of our home to occupy my home. Dh and I have also been together 13 years shortly and I want to make us a priority for a bit. Star

Decs and tree came down yesterday, and we are relatively tidy so I'm building on that.

To do
Declutter ds1's memory box. It has lots of things in it that I don't think we need and it's overflowing.
Clean the downstairs Windows
Tidy my little side table
Menu plan
Cook and clean up a roast dinner
Drink my water
Laundry (I know this is controversial but needs must!)

Be back later.

Happy New Year to all Fledglings old and new, I'm back again :)
I've probably said it before but I'll say it again - this is the year I will get the house sorted properly! We have decorating that needs to be finished from two years ago , way too much clutter and all the other rooms need to be decorated! However now I am off to parkrun

It's 366 days to 2017, we got a full head of plans, half a pack of biscuits, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit it! (sorry Blues Brothers :o)

However now I am off to parkrun :)

Happy New Year to all my FLYing friends old and new. Grin

New Years Resolutions:
Keep up with the FLYing.
Stick with Weight Watchers, aiming to lose at least 0.5 pound per week - if I keep the goal small feel happy if I beat it! Hmm
Keep practising destressing techniques from 2 great books borrowed from the library.

WhoKnows thanks for taking on the january thread
Blue enjoy your break at MIL's
NickNacks starting at Cambridge sounds really exciting.

To do
Usual morning kitchen routine.
Carry on re-reading my favourite trilogy, but will set the timer so don't lose the whole day!
Finish taking down decs that don't involve standing on chairs - dyspraxic balance and standing on chairs is a very bad combination!
Planning to do jobs for DH's week off next week!
Dusting - why do christmas decs and ornaments attract so much dust!?
Throwing away the Halloween sweets that no one really likes but are still cluttering up my kitchen side!
Restart babysteps and tweek control journal, again!

Ta Da
DH off to work with sandwiches made.
Dd and my breakfast eaten.

Had better get moving as mess is putting my stress levels up

Have a great New years day, will try and come back on this evening.

Box up Christmas decs
Nag dp to remove the tree
Clean the living room
Clean the bathroom
Washload on
Declutter car and bag

Morning everyone!

I stayed up to see in the new year. DH went to bed early as he's not too well so I was accompanied by Ben and Jerry instead! Wink

Not sure what the plan is today, think we are all worn out TBH! Might spend my Christmas money online but that will probably be the most productive thing I do. Blush

I am also doing the 52 Small Changes challenge so I need to locate my filter bottle - Week 1 is drinking more water.

Happy New Year 2016 lovely fledglings one and all!

(It's me - SC - with NY nc.)

Hope you have all had as good a holiday as possible!

Humungous thanks to Can't for gallantly steering us through the stressful month of December (and I certainly hope that vodka was involved in some shape or form at various points!!)

And mahoosive thanks to Whoknows for so kindly taking on what is a notoriously busy month in January - v. good of you - and much appreciated!

Like Whoknows we have been hither and thither in between hosting but last trip was curtailed because we had to come back for furry one's ultrasound (which showed nothing suspicious thank heavens!) earlier in the week and now dh has really bad flu which he traditionally gets at this time every year because it is the only time he allows himself to be ill. He can't help it but ... sigh ... anyway ... as a result we had very subdued NY celebrations and couldn't get out to the countryside as intended but posting herewith a dog-walking shot instead!

Public rooms are hanging in there but have done very little Flying apart from wielding the hoover and dustpan and brush at various moments and endelssly loading and unloading of dw, but Mt Washmore is reaching alarming proportions so must start tackling that today.

Haven't caught up properly with thread but will be back early next week to do so properly.

In the meantime (from previous thread) great to see you Mercury and many congrats on impending arrival Thanks So sorry to hear your dd is ill though, hope she recovers soon!

A warm welcome to Lisa too!

Impressed by those of you who have already put away your Christmas decorations - I keep them up as long as poss - as when they are up they do a good job of covering crumbling plaster etc. But need to look up when the communal Christmas tree collection is taking place (they make them in to compost) and work backwards from there!

Have a great weekend everyone and hope none of you have been adversely affected by the floods.

Forgot to say Whoknows - love the thread title btw!

Fuzz what are these 52 small changes of which you spk? (Sorry to hear your dh under the weather too).

Shannara and Nicknacks I'm with you on the weight loss. Dh took pictures of me opening a present to send to giver, and I look like a barrage balloon wearing a party hat Blush Have bought a spiraliser which I hope won't end up as one of those redundant kitchen gadgets gathering dust ... .

Really lovely to "see" you Feetheart enjoy the run!

Hope you have a much-deserved rest at your mil's Blue!

Big enthusiastic new year waves to Ellie Toffee Grey Honu and everyone else!!

Going to make the most of the unseasonably blue skies here and go out for another dog walk now ... .

Hiya SC I was wondering what your new name would be this month!

Glad Furry One's ultrasound was clear, what a relief.

We're having a lazy family day today just playing with new toys. I've done nothing except stick the TD on.

(I've also started my own support thread which is for the absolute basics of looking after oneself etc, as I really struggle with that, and it's more a mental health issue IYSWIM)

Hi sc things are good. Moved house a couple of months ago to somewhere bigger and it's a complete mess though - hence the need for flying!

There are quite a few people on the thread atm who have recently moved house Pushme so you should find lots of kindred spirits on here! Good luck with all the organising!

Happy New Year all.

fuzz - I'm on that 52 small changes thread too and bought myself a filtering water bottle specially for the first week. As I'm also doing half of Dry January and staying off the booze, this fits in nicely .

Grey - am giggling at Shannara eating her DD along with her breakfast. Remember, everyone, the wrong grammar kills (reminds me of the life-saving comma between 'Let's eat, Grandma' and 'Let's eat Grandma' Wink).

SC - well done at getting through Xmas and NY visitors and social activities, but sorry to hear DH is ill. On the other hand, am very happy your Furry One is ok.

Welcome back, pushme.

Mercury - sorry DD is sick. Hope she's better soon (and you don't catch it).

Happy New Year and sleep well, Cant.

NickNacks - good luck with Cambridge Diet!

feet - best of luck with all your plans.

Blue - hope you are having a restful, non-Flying time at your MIL's.

We had a good start to NY Eve, as we went next door to our neighbours' for early-evening drinks. That was lovely. However, when we arrived home, DS1 (16) was in a foul temper and managed to upset all of us, so we ended up going to bed early and leaving him on his own. I heard him going up to bed around 3. He's been refusing to take his pills, which upsets his mood, plus he's definitely in the midst of puberty, so is very Kevin-ish these days .

Anyway, fresh start today and all that. Hope everyone is having a restful day. Thanks

Hi Toffee it's lovely to see you on here, I miss you posting regularly! How has work been? And your first Christmas back in work? I love my filter bottle and DCs love theirs. I don't think our tap water tastes too bad anyway, but it definitely improves the taste regardless and I much prefer using it when I go elsewhere (I don't like the tap water where mum lives - she doesn't either so she has the same bottle).

Forgot to say also, thank you so much Cant for the December thread - seriously brave - I hope that hasn't dented your energy reserves too much. And thank you WhoKnows for the shiny new January thread!

I have been brave and just looked up how to register myself as self employed. Eeek! I've been procrastinating - didn't do it at the beginning when I started teaching and then got all anxious about being told off for not doing it sooner. But I've been thinking about my new year's resolutions and as part of that I finally looked it up, and it turns out the deadline for me wouldn't be til October 2016, so it's fine! It's top of the list for Monday. I have kept records from the start anyway so it'll be easy to transfer the info hopefully (not that I'm anywhere near tax threshold anyway, even with my PT wages!).

Haven't actually done anything physically useful though! I feel we all need a really easy day. The last week has been bloody fantastic, but involved an awful lot of socialising, and we are all frazzled and worn out (not least DH who had to work through most of it).

I am feeling optimistic about 2016 :) I didn't feel 'safe' posting a proper 'look back at the year' thing on FB, because of the work situation and stuff, but really overall despite the crap going on with my health it's been an amazing year because I have my happy DCs back and most notably we have made loads of lovely friends since we started home ed. I may regret saying this but I'm really looking forward to starting our new 'term'. :)

Hello everyone. Can I pop my head in and say Hi and come back and join you?

I have just spent a lovely afternoon in the pub with a friend and during a conversation I decided that I will come back on here and get to grips with the house once again.

I am not expecting anything until Monday, though, as I am still officially in holiday mode and that includes the minimal amount of housework.

I plan to stick with you for the month and see if I can keep up with you all, if you will have me?
