Heart rate drops during excersise

Does anyone else get this and what causes it? I have a resting heartrate of about 104. I've recently starting to do some light jogging in which my HR goes to about 180 but there will be drops to around 50 and I feel really weird. I've had other people test my fit bit to see if it is a fault but it doesn't happen with them. Could it be because I'm morbidly obese and unfit?

That is a very high resting heartbeat, mine is about 65 on my Fitbit. You say that other people have tried the Fitbit, what does their heartrate look like on it? It sounds like a problem with the device rather than your heart because I can't see how what you describe is possible, I'm no doctor though!

mistermagpie · 13/07/2017 14:31

I should say that my current 65 heartrate is while I'm lying on the sofa doing nothing!

Wrist fitbit is crap for measuring HR. You need a proper heart rate monitor (chest strap). And even those can be wrong.

If you stop & take your pulse manually (finger on wrist or neck), can you time your HR to see what it's doing? I don't believe you are doing what feels like exercise with HR only at 50 bpm, sorry, just No.

ragged · 13/07/2017 20:07

ps, can I ask how old you are?

Delatron · 13/07/2017 22:25

I'd get it checked out. 104 is a high resting heart rate. It shouldn't drop during exercise either.

Im 25. I've always had a high resting HR, had ecg and they have been ok. I have health problems and when I'm unwell it's higher. My gp & consultants know about my HR but not this drops I get. I do get dizzy spells and faint but that's been down to low blood pressure apparently

A resting heart rate for someone your age is around 60-80.
yes, being obese is the issue because your heart is working overtime to pump blood to your organs due to your size.
My resting rate is about 59-60 and I'm in my 60s.

I can't see how it drops to 50 on exercise unless you have something wrong. I'd ask your GP for a 24 hour heart monitor and then let them see the results when you hand it in.

it' s great you are working on your weight but I think you'd be better off doing brisk walking at 3.5 - 4 mph to begin with until you lose weight rather than jogging. Or do the walk/ jog regime - 20 walking paces alternating with 20 jogging steps.

Those heart rate monitors are not very accurate, i find mine often drops down to 40 or 50 pm when I'm exercising and I know it's really more like 130 or so

provider5sectorzz9 · 14/07/2017 18:48

Take your pulse and compare with the hrm

ShinyNewUsernameToday · 14/07/2017 22:06

Ok will do that. I get palpitations but that would be if it was fast?

104 is a high resting heart rate. For it to drop during exercise I would be concerned - especially getting light headed / dizzy.

You should see you gp.

I have routine appt so will mention it mon
