I know I should really go to a lovely independent..............

Both garden centres are a short drive from me. Which one should I go to?
Does anyone have any opinion on quality, price etc?

I didn't really know either, but just looked and it seems Wyevale are probably a franchise, as a couple not very far from us, which I had assumed WERE independent, came up under the Wyevale banner, 6 and 20 miles from us. Notcutts, however nearest was 130 miles away!

Wyevale at Bicester?

I wouldn't bother. It is seriously overpriced and doesn't have half the charm it did as a blooms.

Pipbin · 15/03/2015 23:49

No, not Bicester.
I wonder of Wyevale are a franchise. I'm sure the one near me used to be called something different.

Wyevale operate 148 garden centres in Eng;land and Wales - badged under various names - Notcutts have 18.

Notcutts is a privately owned company and has a far better reputation in the industry than Wyevale.

Pipbin · 16/03/2015 07:04

Thank you Stop. I've been going to Wyevale but I'll see what Notcutts is like.

How dull has my life become that I spend my time thinking about garden centres.

Oh no, my local garden centre has just been taken over by Wyevale. Is it going to turn shit now? We've a Notcutts near us but it's not very good. Luckily we have a couple of good indies too.

AlternativeTentacles · 16/03/2015 07:29

Nothing dull about gardening.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/03/2015 07:32

We've only got independents round here and mostly they are fairly useless, the gardening stuff all seems to be getting squeezed out by tea cosies and Yankee candles.

itsnothingoriginal · 16/03/2015 14:54

We have a local Wyevale. It's huge and more like a garden centre/out of town shopping outlet with cafe and Moutain Warehouse etc!

It is overpriced but the plants I've bought from there have always been good quality (and I've bought a lot over the last 5 years doing my garden from scratch!). You get good points if you have a Gardening Club card.

samsam123 · 18/03/2015 22:43

go to both you can never visit enough garden centres

Twooter · 18/03/2015 22:45

Solihull?

FunMitFlags · 18/03/2015 22:59

I've had only good experiences at Wyevale. Our nearest Notcutts is great if you want hideous ornaments or candles or an over-priced lunch but not so good for actual plants and garden essentials.

Pipbin · 18/03/2015 23:59

I might. That would just be decadent though.

And no, not Solihull.

The Notcutts near me is crap for plants and extremely expensive - does have a very nice cafe though .
