Can anyone recommend some trainers for the gym?

I am relatively new to fitness. I’ve been going for about 8 weeks now and am starting to really enjoy my workouts. I see a PT twice a week and he sets my programmes which tend to be a mixture of everything- a cardio warm up then a lot of weights and then a HIT bit at the end.

I’m looking for your trainer recommendations- tried google and I’m so confused as to what sort of trainers I need. The ones I have at the minute are an old pair of Nike flex ones which I find a bit slippy when doing lunges or mountain climbers. Happy to spend money on the right pair as they are going to take a battering!

I've recently bought a pair of Nike Free Metcons and they are excellent. I tend to do quite a variety and they suit everything.

Metcons are good but there are equally good options depending on your feet shape.
Wider feet would be good with reebok nanos for example

Thanks for starting this thread OP as I was about to ask the same question.

I’m in the same boat and have been so confused when searching on line. I’ve got really good trainers with specially fitted gait insoles but they’re really for running. I think the footbed is too high? I find when doing weighted squats I’m putting my heels on the edge of the mat to compensate and I need something more grippy for heavier weights.

Thanks for all the recommendations! For those with metcons- how do you find them on the treadmill or cross trainer?

@Deux it’s so confusing isn’t it?! I thought buying trainers would be easy!

I’ve found some that seem to fit what I need (I think!) air max Bella tr3 but I’m tempted to get a pair of metcons too now!

@Laufeythejust I did find these reviews which supports what PPs have suggested. Agree it’s so confusing! Plus I don’t really want to buy online as I’m not sure of size. I’m a 4 but my trainers are 5.5.

I think we should buy at least a half size bigger, is that right or is that just for running shoes? 🤷🏻‍♀️

The reviews are useful thank you! Oh god I’ve no idea about the size now!

Please whatever you do get grippy trainers. I'm a PT and the amount of people who turn up in white foam soled trainers with no grip is staggering.

I have seperate running shoes and gym shoes.

My running shoes have a bit of control, and the grip and support is all in the wrong place on sole for gym mat hitt work and just did not feel grounded enough for lifting. Need grippy flat shoes for burpees, press ups etc and the squat rack :)

Metcons fab for all in gym, and I generally use everything but the treadmill (only like running outside!)

I also have separate running shoes (Brookes) and gym shoes (metcons). Metcons are great for weights and the metcon 6 have heel inserts for barbell squats which is great
