Advent Running Challenge

I've had a crap relationship with running the past 18 months. Completed c25k in July in a bid to get me back into a routine which worked but was really ill for a month afterwards and struggled to get back into it. So saw one posted on a running group and thought I'd give it a stab. Pretty simple. Run every day (including Christmas Day) minimum of 3 miles or 25 mins whichever come first.

Went out after school drop off and did my 25 mins. It was tentative cos of the frost/ice but managed 17 mins before needing a 90sec walk than carried on with my plod. So mega pleased with that as it's been so long since I've ran. Weather was glorious too.

So does anyone want to join me in an advent Running Challenge?!

well done you. I don't want to commit to a daily run, but would like to bump for you. Have you been out today, then?!

Thank you 😊 Was just about to post for accountability.

Up and out at half nine in the drizzle. 5min walk to warm up. 28 min plod with a 90s walk about the 20min mark. Did 4.4k in total

I'm in!

Did 5k yesterday and a bit less today. To be honest, I hate running, but I like wine, and food, so...

Lol yes exactly that.

I like food too much and anything to help counterbalance the Christmas excess

Good luck hope it goes well

I’m running 3x a week as that’s all I can fit in but will cheer you on Smile

thismeans I am in! Trying to beat the Christmas bulge but also the Christmas stress - not sure why exactly, but I find the build-up to Christmas stressful, and running is my best stress buster.

Hope running in the gym counts. Due to family commitments and work I find it difficult most days to get out before about 8-ish, and I am wimp about going out in the dark and cold this time of year. Anyway, I did 5k on 1 Dec and 5k on 2 Dec.

I might try and join you. I've been out for a bit but I'll try and do some. Just bought a secondhand treadmill. It's not too if the range but it will do and it will help me have no excuses anymore.

catlover of course - runs count anywhere. I will have to do 1-2 a week on a treadmill because there's no other way I'd squeeze it in otherwise.

Anyway off to put me running kit on. If I go for a run now it means I'll have a free hour or so this afternoon when DH takes dd swimming. 😂

Dropping in to say 'hello'

I'm not sure about running every day, but I need to find ways to spur me into not letting myself find excuses to miss. OK, this weekend I'm 200 miles from home and although I did a Parkrun as a tourist yesterday, I don't think there's any way to fit a run in today (will be in the car for a fair chunk of it). So I need a stiffened resolve to make sure I run tomorrow!

Auntie maybe you could try for a half-way compromise, running every second day instead of every day? I love the idea of parkrun tourism, btw. I would love to go to our local parkrun, but it clashes with something else on the day.
I am trying to sort the logistics for fitting in a run today. I am (loosely) supervising some homework now, and then have to drop teenage son at football the other side of town (so 40mins drive) early this afternoon and then pick him up two hours later. And this evening I am going out at 7. I will aim for 5 or 5.30pm. Maybe that means I could go outdoors instead of the gym, would be nice for a change!

Helloo, I have recently started running, but finding it hard to run more than 10mins. Could someone please give me some tips? Any apps to use?

wizaliz the nhs Couch to 5K (C25K) is great, it can be downloaded as a podcast free from the website (just google nhs C25K). It takes you gradually through various stages over about 9 weeks, gradually building up distance and stamina. I think there could be other similar apps out there, but I am not familiar with them.

What a great idea!
I have missed the first two days...
And I have an injury that I really don't want to aggravate but can I join you in spirit and try with walking 10,000 and hopefully get into running in a few days /week when my injury heals up?

Went out this morning but struggled. Think running in the cold the past 2 days after months of nothing has made my quads proper seize up 😱 So A lot of run/walking but I got up and out and that's the main thing.

2mrw is a treadmill run which I'm dreading. To the point I'm on the verge of legging it to town and getting some high vis so I can go outside instead.

Ideally at some point I'd like to get back into parkrun. I'd hit just over 100 summer last year and only done the odd 1 or 2 with DD since. If I can convince DH to take dd to her dance class next Saturday morning that might be my plan.

wiz I used the ZenLabs c25k app. Think it's 3 sessions over 9 weeks gradually building up the time and reducing the intervals. I liked this one cos I could play my own music rather than use the ones that are on the podcasts etc

Day 4 boxed off. Did 40 mins on the treadmill and did just over 5k. Hate treadmill running. Got to 15 mins and was bored to tears so mixed it up with some speed work.

Day 6 boxed off. Last treadmill run for the week (thank god) decided to get my fat ass re familiarised with what 10kmh feels like. On a treadmill it feels like a sprint. Out and about it's much more maneagable. Anywho I managed it for 15 mins then just did intervals till I hit 4.5k at 30 mins

Day 7 done. Good to be outside but my god the cold don't half make my quads seize up! Managed to do a continuous 25 mins too so that's huge progress in 7 days!

Fantastic well done! Is amazing how quickly you improve. I also need to get back to park run...
My injury has healed and I've managed at least 10,000 steps for the last week so I'm going to have a go at a run tonight, gulp!

Ah fab masonbee . Take it easy out there! Don't know what it's like where you are but it's slippy and ice as hell round here 😱

Just done day 8. A 36min 5k which I'll take, especially as I had to walk a couple of sections because of the ice!

Feeling brave now so Just looking to see which park run I should do. It sounds daft but I daren't go to my local one. It's been a while since I've been and I've got so rubbish since I'm almost embarrassed to show my face. Which is just crazy I know.

Day 9 done and I did indeed brave parkrun. Cold, blue sky, slippy in patches and a bit of hail halfway through that stung like a don't know what. Frustratingly had to walk for 30s at 28mins due to bad pins n needles in my foot. But finished in 33 mins. I'll take that.
