I bought some Nike running shoes from eBay. They were in the 'women's shoes' category and listed as a UK6/EU39

I queried this with the seller as Nike class a UK6 as an EU40. The seller confirmed that they're an EU40 or US7Y.

I bid, won and with they arrived realised that they're children's shoes as the 7Y is youth.

I've gone back to the seller asking for a refund as I thought I was bidding on adult shoes and nowhere in the description does it say that they're children's. The seller has said they won't refund as I queried the size before buying (which I did, but I had no idea that 7Y was a children's size, although probably have checked!)

Is there any point in me escalating this? I'm concerned that they won't fit the same as an adult size 6 and nowhere in the description did the seller say they were children's shoes.

If you can afford to write them off, just chalk it up to a mistake

If you can't, persue it and open a dispute. Make it clear that you was unaware they were for children

Why don't you try them on and then decide the size should be the same

A child's size 7 shoes is not EU40, they are 24 or something like that

It's not whether they fit as I won't know til I've run in them and if I run in them I definitely won't be able to raise a 'not as described'.

Thanks both, I think I'll raise a 'not as described' but not get my hopes up and see what happens. I should've googled the 7Y maybe!

They are not children's, most trainer brands do a youth range, often the same as the adult range but cheaper ( they are vat exempt) most of these ranges stop at a size 6 or 7. If the have Eu 40 as the size then they are a size 40. If you like them and they fit I don't really see the problem.

That can't be right. They aren't children's shoes if they are EU40, and if they are children's shoes, your feet won't fit - can you get your foot inside?

US7Y is a EUR40.
But you have the shoes, you are the only one who knows if they fit. (btw, I always buy kids shoes, they are cheaper, and they fit in the same way)

So he had confirmed that they were a youth size 7 on the messages? They are the same size the only issue could be that the fit is a bit slimmer.

uk to us sizes are two sizes different are they not?? So a US7 is a UK5

and a EU40 is not a child's 7

it's a blooming malarkey though all this shoe nonsense...some manufacturers say a 40 is a 7 and some say a 7 is a 41

EU sizes don't come in kids/adult. The number is the number. So you can ignore the 7Y part, if they say EU40 on the label then they're a UK 6.5 (I'm a size 6 UK and 39 EU fits me better, 40 is generally too big).

My adult Nikes say US 8.5, UK6, EU40 cm 25.5

My concern is that they won't fit like an adult 6 but maybe I'm worrying unecessarily. If they were ordinary shoes I wouldn't care (as they seem to fit) but I won't know for sure til I've had a run in them. They certainly appear genuine

A US men's size 7 shoe is the same length as a US women's size 8.5.

I bought some Nike trainers from my local outlet which were a 7Y. I'm a UK 6 and they fit me perfectly.

Thanks all. I don't think they're men's as they were advertised as women's.

It seems that they should fit the same as an adult 6 from what lottie said .

The sellers reply was somewhat 'forthright' so I'm not sure I'd get anywhere with him/her anyway.

OP, as I said, they should fit, but if they don't you can open a not as described case. You'll get a pre paid returns label to return the trainers for a refund.

As I've said upthread, they're running shoes so it's not just a case of trying them on. Running shoes are always bigger than normal shoes as you need room for your toes to be pushed forward. Otherwise you're likely to lose your toenails

But do they fit? When you try them on you should have an idea whether your toes are squashed up the front or there's room.
When you go into a shop don't you have the same issue, you try them on and see if there's enough room?

I understand what you are saying Op, I too run half marathons, I usually wear a 7 but my trainers are an 8. What I don't understand is why this means you cannot try them on.

If they are too tight before you run then you have a case for Mis sold.
