First covid vaccine for DS after having covid

My DS is 13.. He had covid in Sept so can only now have vaccine.
I was originally reluctant for him to have as independent advice didn't seem to show great advantage for him overall. Then he got it anyway and was fine.

However, considering recent covid levels, I have booked a slot for weekend but just found out he could be given moderna jab rather than Pfizer.. This has made me irrationally anxious after getting my head round minuscule risk for teenage boys from vaccine .. Think because DH & I were fine with Pfizer so thought he would be, and everyone who I know that had moderna seems to have been sick for a day or so.

So does anyone have any reassurance for me preferably from UK about moderna vs Pfizer for this age group of boys.

Pfizer and Moderna are both mRNA vaccines.

I thought it was Pfizer for that age group

Nhs says:

Most people can have any of the COVID-19 vaccines, but some people are only offered certain vaccines.

if you're pregnant or under 40 you'll usually be offered appointments for the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines

if you're under 18, you'll only be offered the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2021 12:03

He’ll be given Pfizer.

dementedpixie · 15/12/2021 12:07

Although I see moderna has been approved for that age too so I'm not sure now

Everything on the nhs site is talking about children being given Pfizer.

A BBC article from November says this:

What vaccine is used and will younger children be jabbed?

Under-18s are being given the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, although the Moderna vaccine hasalso been authorised for use in children in the UK.

There is no vaccine currently approved for under-12s in the UK.

My DS13 had his first one this morning, the leaflet says it was called Comirnaty. Leaflet does have BioNTech-Pfizer logo on it. Other than a sore arm he’s ok so far.

dementedpixie · 15/12/2021 12:56

Comirnaty is pfizer
Spikevax is moderna

Hello everyone.. Thanks for your replies.. My friend took her daughter this morning and although she was given moderna booster daughter got Pfizer... So perhaps they are in practice just giving Pfizer 🤞
