Quick vaccine questions from an emetophobe

Will definitely have the vaccine when offered BUT trying to prepare myself psychologically...

If you've had the vaccine could you answer these questions for me?

  1. Did you feel nauseous afterwards?
  2. Were you actually sick?
  3. Did you have diarrhoea?
  4. If yes to any of the above, how long did it last?

Thank you x

I’ve had mine. Absolutely no side effects whatsoever.

I have the same phobia as you, so was very worried when I had mine. I had the Oxford one and the next day I was feverish and aching, but honestly I did not feel nauseous. My aching lasted about 24 hours then I was absolutely fine.

I've had mine. I felt a bit wooly headed, achy and tired the next day with an aching arm. I slept a lot.

The day after that was right as rain with more energy I've had in ages.

I am exactly the same as you OP. I'm so scared of throwing up and I've read all these side effects threads in horror. I now am dreading having my vaccine and hope they run out before they get to me. Which is stupid.

I had mine yesterday morning (az), I haven't had any side effects at all, apart from my arm feeling slightly bruised.

I felt a bit nauseous for 2 days.

No side effects of any sort

The only side effect I had was a sore arm for about 48 hours. I had Pfizer.

Elouera · 07/03/2021 11:54

I had the AZ one 2 weeks ago. I had none of the symptoms you mentioned. Around the vaccine site it was tender for 3 days. I had joint pain in my knees and generally achy- nothing else.

Have you had CBT to help you with your phobia? Could you take an anti-emetic beforehand?

Report
Changechangychange · 07/03/2021 11:55

Pfizer, already had antibodies. Sore arm only. The kind of symptoms my colleagues and patient have had have ranged from nothing, to feverish and tired. No nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea.

Report
JenIsAGem · 07/03/2021 11:55

I didn't have any of those symptoms Smile

AZ, none of the above. Slightly sore arm and a bit under the weather but nothing else. Two relatives had AZ and had no side effects, other two relatives had Pfizer and had no side effects, one friend had AZ and felt fluey but not nauseated.

@Elouera If I hadn't already had CBT, I wouldn't even be able to contemplate having it! It has changed my life. Hadn't thought of asking gp for an antiemetic - worth considering but may feel like I'm giving in to it. Thank you.

Know lots of people who have had it and no reports of digestive symptoms from anyone.
Covid on the other hand can cause digestive symptoms.

I haven't heard of anyone feeling or being sick after either vaccine.

I had mild fever/muscle pain/swollen arm/lymph nodes, most people I know who've who've been vaccinated had fewer side effects than that.

I had mine on Friday morning and I felt very tired, arms and legs ached and I was really cold. The sickness feeling started in the evening and lasted about twelve hours. I felt terrible that night but actually on Saturday morning, even after not sleeping very well, I felt much better. My arm still hurts though.

I know a couple of people who have had it, and none of them had side effects like that :).

I used to have emetophobia(started taking citalopram for something else and it cured me!)
I recently had the AZ vaccine. The night of the jab, I had a bit of a temperature and was more tired but didn’t feel sick at all. Achy arm for a couple of days after, but that’s it.
Honestly though, get a low dose of citalopram... you won’t be sorry!

Report
PuzzledObserver · 07/03/2021 12:10

None of the above.

I've had chills, fever, mild nausea, light headedness and fainted in the 48 hours since having my AZ vaccine. I've felt like crap but at no point thought I'd actually be sick. My arm was incredibly sore for the first 24 hours.

Hoping to feel better tomorrow.
