What is/was your baby doing at 14 weeks old? Is mine quite advanced?

I'll get hung drawn and quartered for saying this, but mine eats food- feeds himself with a spoon as long as I put the food on the spoon for him. His favourite food is banana, he loved it and cries when it's all gone and refuses his bottle for it sometimes. He feeds himself 'finger foods' (only very basic things at the moment).

He laughs.

He laughs at ceebeebies when the characters or presenters laugh.

When I say 'dada' he says 'ah-ah'. When I make gurgle noises he copies me. When I squeel he squeels and then laughs.

He sits up by himself.

He loves anything colourful.

He laughs his head off when anyone says 'boo'.

He sleeps 11 hours at night.

He holds his own bottle.

He wants to stand up allllllllll the time, he's very strong.

If you say 'kiss' he opens his moth for a kiss, and 'cuddle' he puts his hands either side of his neck. And if you say 'kiss baby' he opens his mouth to kiss his newborn cousin.

And loads of other stuff.

He just seems really advanced to me. Do all babies do these things by 14 and a half weeks old?

Enjoy him, dont be getting excited thinking he is a genius. Everyone elses babies seem a bit dim and not very exciting compared to your own.

Would not not be giving him food at 14 weeks though as that is very young, prob why he sleeps 11 hours at night as he is stuffed full.

well - DS1 starts his Astrophysics degree at Harvard soon

DS2 is sitting 7 A levels next summer

and DS3 is going straight into Yr6 at school in September

My ds1 was like that - very advanced. Ds2 is more 'normal' and did things when he was ready. Whilst its great having a child that does everything early it can be very tiring and it carries on throughout their development. Ds1 will never rest or relax he always has to be doing something or asking something he has to be permenantly doing something. Ds2 is no-where near as advanced and is happening pootling about and is far more in tune with others feelings. Its great having a child who wants to do stuff but try and enjoy each stage as they very quickly grow up!

In all seriousness I actually can't remember what he was doing back at at stage, it all seems such a blur.

I am one of those hideous first time mums who thinks their baby is the best ever on the earth lol I can't help it!

When he just has milk he takes 8 ounces every hour and a half and it drives me demented. He's not even fat, he's just really tall.

He never ever stops smiling and laughing, he's a total delight. Everyone loves him. And they love that he copies what noises they do so people are looking stupid doing ridiculous noises for him to copy while I catch it all on video lol.

Not even ugly. Surprisingly good looking and proportionalised considering he came from me and he dad. lol.

I think he gets his cleverness from his grandad.

If genuine, it is all advanced- however, he should not really even be eating at 14 weeks.... 16 weeks is the asbsolute earliest and even then not recommended. should be 24 weeks really....

Also, weight baring on his legs at this stage is not a good idea at all. the hips are not properly developed to take weight and can cause damage. When they are formed we naturally begin to pull ourselves up onto furniture and then start to walk once the balance and co-ordination come. I'd not encourage standing or weight baring at all at 14 weeks- however much he wants to, or however precocious he is

my DD loved 'standing' on our knees earlier than 12 weeks, however, she was found to have bilateral dislocated hips at 12 weeks and would have caused further damage if allowed to weight bare even shortly at that age.

Take it easy, they are only babies for such a short time.

I'd get him started on pencil control asap. Presume you've already got the flashcards on the go. And a blast of Mozart every hour on the hour will go a long way.

Ds1 is clever - but he is also very strong-willed and thinks he knows best and can be very insensitive to others. He is a lovely boy and is a pleasure as he is so bright and interested but can be very draining if you are not in the mood FOR THE CONSTANT QUESTIONS!!!

14 weeks is far too early to be given solids. I have said before some parents do it as a race and think it's a sign of advancement. It's not. It's a sign of competitive parenting.

Seriously, my DS can do all of that (except feed himself as he hasn't started weening)and can't stand unaided.... oh and can't sleep through - wakes up at 3am religiously! but he is also seriously cute and can fart / belch / crap and sick up with ease. What a genius.

I think people are being a bit mean. I'm just happy that he's doing all these new things and I'm really excited.

It's all genuine. I'm not saying he's going to be at uni by age 5, I'm just saying he's doing new stuff that I find amazing considering he was in my tummy 15 weeks ago.

It all seems to be going so fast.
