I can't believe Connie is more popular than Lydia! ANd Victoria is in the top 100??? I don't know a Victoria under 30. Maddison is in the UK list with two Ds

Morgan's there in boys and girls!

I chose dd's name when I was 4, nobody ever used it and now it's in the top flipping 50. Gah.

I knew Isla was going to be a rapid climber - earmarked for dc2 if a girl. DH very much decided and suspect i'll struggle to change his mind. I don't suppose it really matters - just thought we were being slightly less than usual.

I love all the top ten boys names, but I really don't understand the appeal of Olivia, I don't think it's a nice name at all.

Needless to say, none of my children's names are in either list.

I don't have a Morgan btw was just tickled that it's in both.

I think both top 10s are rather dull. I am surprised by how many more nicknames creep in. So, Ben and Benjamin, Tom and Thomas etc. I think it's a very interesting social document. Well, sort of interesting. Or mildly noteworthy.

This is the Bounty poll and not the offical one btw. Not sure how different they will be, but would expect Mohammed to be in there.

Whats the difference with the bounty poll?

I presume that it is just the mothers who gave their details to Bounty (via the Bounty packs) as opposed to those all births registered by Registrars.

YAY my dd name not in here either....don't know why that makes me happy but it does!!!

A few of the boys names I really liked have creeped into the list although when I had dd they weren't very well known!

Yeah Bounty not all that accurate!! The bounty woman LAUGHED at my son's name so I was a bit surprised and unco-operatively turned my back on her.

I really can't believe Jack is still number one. I know some people don't care that a name is fairly popular, but number one, for 14 yrs!!! And people are still choosing it?

LadyMuck · 29/12/2008 18:43

Just checked - Mohammed was the 17th most popular boys name in 2008 in terms of those registered but only 278 on Bounty.

As a rough guess I would say that Bounty only covers 2/3 of births. Mind you I don't know what the delay is on the official list (other than we haven't actually reached the end of 2008).

National statistics published their 2007 results on 19 Dec 2007 (presumably the number of babies born in the last 12 days or so isn't enough to skew the stats). So, not sure why they haven't yet..... probably because I've been waiting for them !

I can't believe that Madison AND Maddison is in there.... I find that name so unfeminine. Also, have you been to Madison in Wisconsin??

Please can those whose dc's names are not on either list please name them here? I'm trying not to give my next child a top 100 name and looking for inspiration!

Thanks!

Ds' name is number 11.

Possible names for DC2 are also all in top 100 (one of them been Morgan for a girl)

Where did Summer suddenly come from? I noticed a few when I started doing writing classes in schools. There simply weren't any when I was at school.

The top 10 boys' names are all surprisingly nice. Actually the top 12
