Will it always be associated with Boris? How popular is it? Do you know any baby Wilfreds?

It’s really growing on me, with Wilf for a nn.

Lovely name and I don't associate it with BoJo, despite knowing its his new son's name

I know two little boys called Wilfred, one gets called Wilf and the other Wilfey. It's a lovely name - go for it!

Classica · 17/06/2021 20:37

I know a few of them. A couple of 8 year old and a couples of toddlers.

It's one of those names I can't personally see the appeal of but it's been getting more popular.

It’s one of those that I love, but probably wouldn’t have dared use. Not because it’s a bad name in any way, it’s just a bit different to my normal preferences.

Boris is just a moment in time. Does the average person know Thatcher's DCs names? I'm guessing not. Go for it op

Unmumsy Mum has a little Wilf

bungabungaboo · 17/06/2021 21:10

It's a lovely name and this is why I called my cat Wilf back in 2001

He has sadly passed away 🐈‍⬛ but if remembered fondly 😍

Lovely name 😊

Aquamarine1029 · 17/06/2021 21:12

I had a great uncle named Wilfred. He was fabulous and I love the name.

LowryLake · 17/06/2021 21:12

Not one I'd choose, but I do like it. It's quite sweet, lots of nn options. I don't associate it with Boris - my first thought was Wilfred Owen.

Wonderful name. I know one baby Wilfred.
I had forgotten it was Johnson's sons name! I don't think that's an issue!

TeenMinusTests · 18/06/2021 08:13

I think it is part of the trend for what I think of as 'old people's names' but the generation naming kids now don't. So Eddie, Bertie, Ivy etc.
I have a Great Uncle Wilfred who died in WW1.

drpet49 · 18/06/2021 08:32

The only Wilfreds (2) that I know of are dogs.

emmathedilemma · 18/06/2021 09:50

I know a teenage one and a 6/7 year old. When the teenage one was born it shocked us but now it seems quite normal.

RuthW · 18/06/2021 12:12

Lovely

Icantthinkofanythingrightnow · 18/06/2021 14:30

I just love the name Wilfred so much and the nickname options too
I don't associate with Boris, they never show his face anyway
I don't know Blair or Cameron's children's names anymore. I think I was aware of them when they were in power but that's only because I have an interest in that type of thing.

Stick with Wilfred
I don't know any , I think a friend of a friend has one but never met one at playgroups etc

wizzywig · 18/06/2021 14:31

Mega gorgeous name

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 18/06/2021 14:32

lovely

LittleGwyneth · 18/06/2021 14:55

I love it, and I don't think the Boris connection is too much of a problem. It's lovely because it can be Will or Fred if he wants to have a more 'normal' name.

DinosaurDiana · 18/06/2021 14:55

I prefer just Wilf.

Sausagedogmom · 18/06/2021 15:00

I don't know any Baby Wilfred (yet), so it reminds me on Boris' baby. But that connection would disappear if I would meet someone with that name.

That being said I think it is a wonderful name, nice NN options, go for it :D
