Junia

Is Junia usable? Or does it sound too much like 'Junior'? I always see it described as a beautiful name (and I want to like it as I love biblical names) and have suggested it to my best friend, who asked me for suggestions looking for a name ending with 'a'. (Couldn't use it myself as doesn't go with the surname). We can't decide whether it's beautiful or everyone will just think she's named her baby Junior and the topic has been bothering us for ages now so thought I'd ask the wise women of MN 🤔

It sounds too much like Junior/Julia

emmathedilemma · 16/06/2021 17:13

It sounds like Junior to me, I wouldn't get the biblical link.

zafferana · 16/06/2021 17:15

I would assume sp. Junior, which isn't great tbh.

alexdgr8 · 16/06/2021 17:15

No.

not the worst i've seen on here but doesn't sound like a proper name.
where is it in the bible, don't recall it.

Pieceofpurplesky · 16/06/2021 17:16

Despite it's beautiful meaning the majority of people the child meets with think it's a 'unique' spelling of Junior. Which is a shame as it is a great looking name.

Juno?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/06/2021 17:17

I wouldn't

it will be forever "what? Julia? Junior?"
urgh, don't do it

FindingMeno · 16/06/2021 17:20

I usually like a wide variety of names but in this instance I'm not at all sure.
Juno- yes though.

Watchingthetelly · 16/06/2021 17:26

Think it depends on where you are, in my accent it doesn't sound like Junior. Gorgeous name - never heard of it before.

MarianneUnfaithful · 16/06/2021 17:32

Sounds exactly like Junior in my accent.

Sometimesfraught82 · 16/06/2021 17:33

I always think that if you’re asking such questions like this… it’s not the name for you to choose.

romdowa · 16/06/2021 17:35

Sounds way too much like junior but as others have suggested maybe juno might be a nice alternative

FawnDrench · 16/06/2021 18:51

No.

Marcipex · 16/06/2021 20:45

It sounds exactly like Junior to me.
Julia would be much better.

partyatthepalace · 16/06/2021 21:13

Sounds exactly like Junior / a misspelling of Julia

Petunia, Julia or Juno - all nice

PoliceDogWoof · 16/06/2021 21:15

Prefer Julia

DramaAlpaca · 16/06/2021 22:23

June/Juno fine.

Julia, not so much. In most accents it'll sound like Junior and that's not good.

toastofthetown · 16/06/2021 23:14

I LOVE Junia. To me it’s by far the best of all the Jun- variants. I wouldn’t use it though, as in my non rhotic accent it sounds the same as Junior, and I think that would be frustrating to constantly explain. Still it’s one of my favourites names. I’d be delighted to meet a Junia.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/06/2021 00:36

Junia going to sound identical to Junior in a lot of accents, as well as be frequently missheard as Julia, so I wouldn't use it personally. Is Julia too commonplace for your friend? Julia is mentioned in the Bible too (as is similar Claudia and Lydia). Or if she likes more obscure Roman names, there is also the pretty Annia? (don't think it's Biblical though)

ElizabethTudor · 17/06/2021 00:52

Sounds like Junior

ElizabethTudor · 17/06/2021 00:52

What about Juniper?

campion · 17/06/2021 01:03

So your friend wants names ending in a but you like biblical names? So it doesn't need to be biblical.

Yes it sounds like Junior, which wouldn't be a great choice for a girl (or a boy).

TatianaBis · 17/06/2021 14:55

June, Juno or Julia are all better.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 18/06/2021 21:46

Apostle Junia! I think it's fab and I totally wouldn't even think of "junior"..... but I can see I'm in the minority here!
