Baby names

What do you think of these names? (Brand me harshly with your hot iron of judginess)

First baby, DH won't agree on anything apart from Alice... I don't love it but I'll use it. I tried to compromise by nick naming her Alice and having Alison on the birth cert. Not an option apparently.

I wanted Lydia so badly Angry

Anywhooo, what about middle names? Things I've considered are

Helen (my Mum's name)

Posy (love it, loved the book as a child. Thanks to the other OP)

Diana

Delphine

Athen

Any ideas? What do you think of them?

Alison is AWFUL. Seventies awful. Alice is much lovelier. What's wrong with you?

Lydia is fabulous. Are you sure you don't want to put DH under the patio quickly, just to be sure you can use it?

Athen I don't like because I can't work out how to pronounce it. My brain is trying to autocomplete to Athens or Athena.

Delphine is the French donkey in Peppa Pig. Shame, because I like it in the abstract.

Diana I think is still very linked to the late Princess of Wales. Do you have other ties to it? Again, nice in the abstract. Good classical heritage.

Posy - love, although I'd prefer Josephine Alice known as Posy!

Helen - mum's name, absolutely perfect. Why bother having a list? Nice name, great reason.

The end.

Diana is my Nan's name.

I love Lydia so much but reminds DH too much of someone from The only way is Essex

Diana is gorgeous and would be very refreshing on a baby now.

Alice is lovely. Surprised myself by liking Posy though possibly only for middle name. Helen a little too trad/plain for me especially after Alice. I like a bit of daring in a name. Lydia I don't like, or others mentioned particularly. Please don't use Athen after Alice.

Alicia is a sort of Alice/Lydia hybrid. I gave dh free reign over choosing our 3rd dd name and he chose a name I was 'meh' about but now I love it because it is her, she grew into it.

Def Helen for middle name, a lovely tribute to your mum.

Lydia is similar to my daughter's name and my other daughter is Helen , so I love them both. Posy reminds me of Posy Simmonds. It's a bit posh for the circles I move in but I don't dislike it in the abstract. I have a sister called Alison so can't say anything bad about it. Alice on the other hand.. reminds me of Larry Grayson and Slack Alice ..(can you tell I have strayed over here from Gransnet?Wink

Alice / Alison - I like

Lydia - Dustbin

Helen - I like it - makes a change from all the names ending in A

Posy - not to my taste

Diana - I like it

Delphine - the donkey from Peppa Pig

Athen - not a real name

I think Alison is much nicer than Alice, sorry! Underused and due a comeback. Start singing 'Living Next Door to Alice' around the place at your DH (the Chubby Brown version) and see if he comes around. Wink

If you do go with Alice, Helen would be a lovely middle name. Also works with Lydia Smile

I have an Alice. Would never have had an Alison - entirely different name.

I love Lydia.

I also love Diana.

Fridge tried the song annoyance and he isn't budging Grin seems quite pleased she has a song entitled much DH

Alison seems so refined and mature, lovely for when she's an adult. Not to mention it can be shorter to Alice (I think?) maybe not. Plus I don't like Ali as a nickname Blush

Lydia chlamydia. I know one and she got that all the time.

Love Diana.

Helen is awful. Outdated. Alison is also outdated.

Posy is truly hideous.

Delphine reminds me of the annoying woman in Orphan Black.

Athen isn't a name, surely?

So, I'd pick Alice or Diana.

My name is Alison Helen.

I have accepted my name over the years however I am more commonly known by my surname instead so apart from family no one calls me by my actual name.

Growing up I hated my name. I tried to shorten it to Ally but if anything I hated that more and I cannot stand to be called it now.

Pick whatever you want. I was persistent with the name I picked for my little one and I got my own way in the end Grin

I love Alice. It goes ok with Helen or Diana as mn I think, better with Diana but either are ok. I'm sure your DD will grow into being an Alice!

Alice is a lovely classic name (ok, I may be biased).
I'm not sure any of your middle name options really go that well though, I think with a short first name you need a longer middle name to balance it out.
Elizabeth always gets suggested on here as a great name (I hate it -biased again!) but Alice Elizabeth sounds good?

I think Athen is awesome - not too flouncy or overly made up, short, easy to pronounce.....and cool Smile

If you do go with Alice, Helen would be a lovely middle name.

My name is Alice Helen and has worked fine for me for 40+ years. Although I do love Josephine.
