Help which longer form of max is best?
Do you prefer Max, Joseph or Oscar?

Maxwell, can't really choose from the3 as all rather popular now, heard so often they've become indifferent to me, if I had to it be Joseph but prefer Josiah

MaximumVolume · 21/06/2015 07:42

I have a Maximilian (only one L). We quite often call him Maximus and Maxim, though! And MIL calls him Maxwell. We're an indecisive family! Grin

ajandjjmum · 21/06/2015 07:46

We have a Max - just Max - in his 20's and it suits him well!

Sophronia · 21/06/2015 10:14

I like Maximilian (with one L), but I think Max is fine on its own as well. There's also Maxen, Maxim or Maximus.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 21/06/2015 10:58

There is also Macsen (Maxen) that's Welsh for Maximus.

CakeRattleandRoll · 21/06/2015 11:08

My choice out of your 3 Max names would be Maximus. I have no strong preference from your other 3 names - quite like all of them.

Roseotto · 21/06/2015 11:46

Oh not Maximus please. It just makes me think "I am Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the armies of the north..." etc!!
Max or Maximilian.
Maxim is very posh 1930s (Rebecca etc) although I rather like it.
Joseph and Oscar are also very nice.

hawkmcqueen · 21/06/2015 15:48

I would pick Maxim, as opposed to your other choices. I can imagine calling a child Maxim and Max, whereas with your other suggestions I would never use the long versions.

PrimalLass · 21/06/2015 15:50

DD has a Mackenzie (Max) in her class.

DoNotDenyMe · 21/06/2015 21:41

Think we'll be going with Max if dc2 is a boy. I'm not a huge fan of any of the full names though, so we'd be opting for just 'Max'.

VenusVanDamme · 21/06/2015 21:46

I'd just use Max, not a fan of the long versions and doubt they'd get used. Also like Joseph/Joe.

Bue · 22/06/2015 16:53

I usually like a long form but in this case I prefer just Max. It's definitely a name in its own right. I also like Maxim though.

Artandco · 22/06/2015 16:56

Maximilian

I also like Maxian

yellowcurtains · 22/06/2015 16:57

Maxim.

PallasCat · 22/06/2015 17:55

Max definitely holds its own as a name, doesn't need a long version. But I do like Maxim too if you specifically want it to be a shortening.

HayFeverSucks · 23/06/2015 10:40

Maxwell, although just Max is lovely too

Marcipex · 23/06/2015 13:21

They are all nice names, but please don't use Maximilian and insist teachers always call him by the full name. Yes, his mummy put it in writing.

MitzyLeFrouf · 23/06/2015 13:27

Max or Maxim

Maximus and Maximillian are a bit much.

singersgirl · 23/06/2015 16:34

Just Max is fine. Or Maxim or Maxwell. I think Maximilian is a bit of a mouthful and Maximus is rather silly. Was anyone called Maximus before that film - I mean, since Roman times? Calling your son 'Biggest' seems odd.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 23/06/2015 16:35

My son was nearly called Maximilian , love the nameSmile
