to even be considering injecting filler into my face

So for some reason in the last 6 months I've suddenly developed these ridiculous creases in my face running from my nose to the corner of my mouth. I literally looked at my face on a zoom call one day and it was all I could see Shock

I'm 29 and have no idea where they've come from, but I look like an actual hag. It's like I've suddenly lost loads of fat from where it normally should be. My resting face looks so tired and grumpy even when I'm trying to look laid back/reassuring/supportive while colleagues are chatting.

They are definitely worse when I'm dehydrated or needing to moisturise, but no amount of creaming or massage or weird face exercises are shifting them.

I know fillers are generally looked down on here, but I just want my face back from a year ago! A quick google tells me they are called nasolabial folds and this is the main way of treating them, so my question is, would I be crazy to get them? Do you immediately get the weird pillow-y face or can it actually look fine?

YANBU, it can definitely help to fill that area subtly and/or you can get some in the cheeks to lift the nasolabial folds. Get it done by a doctor who used cannulas and has good reviews, never a beauty therapist.

nickynackynoopants · 13/05/2021 18:40

YANBU but make sure you find a good injector and make sure they inject at the side of your face rather than in the actual nasal labial lines

Shoxfordian · 13/05/2021 18:41

Don’t actually do it yourself

GrumpyTerrier · 13/05/2021 19:01

Yes they are great, I had some in my cheeks to lift and also in those lines, it's great. If you do get them, it takes about 2 weeks for the full effect to show so don't worry if it doesnt seem to work that well at first.

SimonJT · 13/05/2021 19:05

I very much doubt you look like a hag.

I have a small amount of filler to disguise a nose injury (thanks rugby) until I can eventually have surgery to correct it.

Filler definitely has its uses, but remember for some it can become a slippery slope as some people do go too far.

Name99 · 13/05/2021 19:07

I'm looking into this at the moment.
There are alternatives to fillers
careandcream.com/how-to-soften-nasolabial-folds/
I've had lip filler, so I'm not anti fillers but if I can find an alternative I think I would choose that

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 13/05/2021 19:08

YABU. You are a young woman, I'm sure you're beautiful. If you start now, you are setting yourself up for a whole lifetime of expensive, painful and risky treatments. Don't do it. You're perfect the way you are.

Name99 · 13/05/2021 19:10

I'm also researching PDO threads too.
I want to improve my jowls area but don't want to, like you say get the pillowy look or take it too far

Delatron · 13/05/2021 19:11

You’re still quite young. I would try to up hydration and water. Try a microcurrent device. Fillers at 29 is going to be difficult to upkeep.

I had tear trough/cheek at 44 but wouldn’t have had them any younger.

I also think that they are not injected in to that area anymore as the results are not good. So doctors tend to try and get a bit of lift through injecting in the temple and the upper cheek. I wouldn’t go down that road at 29 though.

RaiseTheBeastie · 13/05/2021 19:12

I think it's probably a slippery slope if you start using that kind of treatment at 29. If you're that unhappy with your face at 29, what do you think you'll want doing at 49?

Drink lots of water, get a good skin vitamin supplement and spend the money on really good facials and skincare products.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 13/05/2021 19:12

YANBU. A colleague of mine had fillers in the same place and it’s lovely and subtle. You’d never guess unless she told you. If it makes you happy why not?!

Fillers get a bad rep because of people who’ve had bad work done or too much but most places these days use hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring chemical in the body so far safer and more natural.

Don’t go to a beauty salon though, see if any of the private dentists by you do facial aesthetics. They’re well trained in where all the facial muscles and nerves lie.

Name99 · 13/05/2021 19:14

The thing about fillers is you can tell when someone has had it done badly
But you can't when someone has it done well
I'd try non filler treatment at your age though.

partyatthepalace · 13/05/2021 19:25

No but get it done by a doctor and properly research who...

Do check out other options tho, 29 is v you g to need this

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 13/05/2021 19:27

If you’re going to do it, start with a really small amount and make sure the practitioner is someone with a medical background so they can deal with anything going wrong. This might mean it costs more but it’s risky otherwise, I’ve seen so many horror stories.

Merchymor · 13/05/2021 19:27

The Zoom effect on self image is a real thing. No one is peering at your face for extended periods of time. I have to tell myself that when peering at myself in the mirror criticising every little 'flaw'.

I see lots of women who look obviously 'done' and it's not my cup of tea. Each to their own though of course, I just don't like it and it makes me feel sad.

Maybe some are so natural that I don't notice but personally I doubt it.

Hurr8cane84 · 13/05/2021 19:33

I had tear trough fillers at 31 and it helped not just with my under eye area but also those lines you are talking about. It sort of lifts the whole face. But the effect lasted 1 year and it's sooo pricey. Get it done by a doctor no matter what. Don't go cheap.

Duplobuplo · 13/05/2021 19:36

Put a credit card over your picture on zoom calls. Sorted.

You probably wouldn't notice if you weren't on screens all day.

OscarWildesCat · 13/05/2021 19:59

YANBU, I’ve had fillers and am booked in to have them again, it makes my face look fresher but not fake. If you want to do it, go ahead, I don’t think you will regret it 😊

If you start filling at 29 then in my opinion it's a bit of a slippery slope towards the smooth, expression and feature less face of modern celebrities.
Embrace the changes as you grow older and just do you bit by eating well and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Protect your skin from UV with good SPF face cream, sun damage is the quickest way the wrinkles!

Delatron · 13/05/2021 21:20

I just don’t think you can have sagging and that much ageing at 29. There’s so many other things to try first. I think filler is for your 40s if at all.

Logmein · 13/05/2021 21:34

I would have a look at Vampire facelifts, the proper one not the facial.
I've had fillers, botox etc and the Vampire is by far the best and it uses your own PRP.
It is more expensive but lasts well.

TheQuaffle · 13/05/2021 21:52

Go for it, it’s amazing when done right but please make sure you go somewhere that uses MEDICS, ie doctors or dentists and not a beautician. There can be so many complications so you need to find someone who is experienced and has a proper medical background. See if they have won or been nominated for a “safety in beauty” award or something.

whereiscaroline · 13/05/2021 22:05

Following because I'm early 30s with the same problem. Also seem to have acquired lines from the side of my lip down to my chin which exacerbate my resting bitch face horribly.
