How do those in Scotland feel about the plan for Scottish schools to return on 11th Aug part-time only?

Feels right to me as long as it’s reviewed over the summer and the correct safety measures are implemented for staff and pupils. I have no desire for them to return before the holidays. I think for primary schools it would be particularly disruptive.

My DC is going into S1 so this may help with the transition they have missed out on.

Actually yes, we weren't due back til the 18th. Not that a week after all this time is much to split hairs over

Not really. 11/12 were originally in service days here and pupils due back on 13th

Sorry I just double checked it's the 19th term due to start. CoEC schools had a full 7 weeks this summer holiday

in my area it was slightly different too due to go back later as a result of inservice days

Some areas were Thursday 13th.

I was answering for myself, yes it's still the holidays for both my dc and me as school staff but I'm fine with it if we are to re start then too. It could just mean from the 11th though, that's not clear yet. Definitely a better idea than trying to rush to get them back for a matter of a couple of weeks with out the best prep

The 11th was the return date for teachers in my area with the pupils returning on the 13th. They may have rescheduled the inservice days and now plan for everyone to return on the 11th.

I'm fine with that. It would be crazy to try to send everyone back before term finished now.

That's what I thought. I'm a Scottish teacher too and will do whatever I'm told but happily giving up the holidays doesn't sit well. Seems like fuelling the fire that we do fk all anyway. I'm knackered and working very hard from home at the moment.

We were due back the 19th this year so only a week early.

I'm fortunate in that I can work from home and DD has a school Chromebook with Google classroom so I'm okay about her only being in part time and she is only S3 so not highly pressing re exams.

Yet you chose too do so anyway...

Not everywhere is due back on the 18th. NLC, SLC and Glasgow city teachers go back on the 11th.

Maybe the will start the summer holidays earlier to compensate

I think she said ‘from 11 Aug’ in which case those due back a week later may still be going back on 18th but she also said it would be part school attendance, part distance, so it won’t be all children.
I am just so happy we have a roadmap. She did a good job explaining it today

@lyralalala pardon? I was only correcting the blanket statement that that date was no longer the school holidays for Scotland, as it was incorrect. My splitting hairs comment meant I didn't mind either myself of dc going back early after having so long off.

Will schools in Scotland look the same as in England in terms of the reception / year 1 returning, 15 class bubbles etc?

I’m happy with it, DD starting P1 and is a Jan bday so I am a bit apprehensive how she will manage. Hopefully phasing in will make it smoother.

They have just said on BBC Scotland that the term dates will be standardised and we will all be back on 11th Aug now.
