AIBU?

to think that starting work on your house on a bank holiday is anti-social

Our neighbour is very elderly and has advanced dementia so he's moving into a care home. Recently they have had gardeners in clearing the over grown garden and so on to prepare the house for sale. Today they have had workmen in since 8am who are taking out all of the rotten windows and doors and replacing them with new windows and bifold doors and have some others in cutting down trees in the front and back garden so it's very noisy with chainsaws, drills and hammering going on.

AIBU to be annoyed at all the noise on a day when we're trying to relax and enjoy our garden?

Why moan? People need to work and pay bills. You'll still have sat/sun/mon.

Sorry but YABU. maybe 8 is a little early but it's a 4 day stretch to get lots done. Noise is part and parcel of living in a street with other people.

Maybe it’s the only time they could fit it in.

Because it's loud, noisy and unpleasant. We are in because of exam revision. I think they (his children) should have arranged the work for during the working week - no work has been done during the week and it'll be started and finished today. They aren't at the house so it's not affecting them at all.

I suspect they’ll start at 8 on all those days too!

Check your local council noise pollution rules l. I don't think they will are allowed to start before 9 on a Sunday or public holiday. If they are going to be doing a lot of work, set the boundaries now.

No it's not, it's a bank holiday. It is for nurses, doctors, police etc but builders? Most places builders are like gold dust and work when it suits them not on bank holidays.

It is infuriating yes, and very inconsiderate. Hmm

DH had not had a day off work from 27th December to mid April last year, and he was looking forward immensely to 5 days off over Easter - Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, and Tue - and the couple next door (we are in a semi and they are joined onto us,) went away on Thursday afternoon for a week.

Then at 7.35 am on GOOD FRIDAY MORNING, we heard banging and knocking and drilling coming from next door. Long story short, her uncle (who is a builder) was putting a fucking new kitchen in for them.

We had no peace ALL good Friday, and the noise went on til 8pm.

It was so bad on the Saturday (started at 8am!) that we had to go out by midday, and stayed out til 6pm, and it was STILL going on. Bang bang bang, drilling and knocking, and loud music from the radio. On the Saturday the noise went on til 10pm! Hmm

Easter Sunday, and Monday, the same. Monday he came at 6.55 am!!! We were furious. Our Easter holiday together, ruined..........

We get on well with the couple - and they have been fine before and since that - so never said anything, but we thought it was very rude and anti social and inconsiderate and thoughtless of their uncle!

"We" can perhaps do revision tomorrow.

No, not all bad. TBH if they had started at a reasonable time I wouldn't have been as annoyed but I finished work at 4am and then got woken up just before 8am by their noise.

Are you relaxing in the garden, or revising?
