Make me want to scream with rage?!

No Sandra I don't care that you eat 17 muller lights a week and yes I hate you lady on the end who's eaten a Chinese 3 times and still lost 5lb.

I hate diet culture, I hate that it mostly preys on people's insecurities and mostly leaves you feeling like crap but I also for the sake of my health want to lose 3st and I really struggle.

Jeez I’d poke myself in the eye rather than put up with that kind of club, I used to love the little Britain sketch of the slimming club. Would an online one work for you? I didn’t like online because I’m not self motivated enough but it works for lots of people. Like Joe Wickes or something?

I have successfully done SW thrice before & need to lose more weight than ever now but the thought of going back fills me with dread. However I have no willpower. Thinking about hypnosis or a week of meal replacements or something for a kick start!

WW on line? Not that I'm a fan of WW / slimming world etc. Or get a book to follow? Michael Mosley has various diet books or the body coach. Personally I'm a fan of the body coach and i like his you tube workouts.

I found MyFitnessPal worked for me one time. Weighing myself with dh at boots weekly. But then I wouldn't fill it in and would cheat myself 😳

It's like a cult. You can tell who at work is currently at SW by the strange concoctions in the shared fridge. They seem to yo yo back to SW on a regular basis. Not for me thanks.

Look up team RH on Facebook, real food, in the right proportions and with a daily work out and steps target to actually make a difference. It’s the first time diet has ever made sense to me even though I exercise a lot. And I’m finally starting to see a difference . Plus it’s so much cheaper than going and listening to Sandra go on about muller bloody lights which essentially are shit nutrition wise

I totally hear you! I can't stand the way everyone is competing to find the new 'free' version of whatever they feel they aren't allowed to eat. Who the hell wants to eat 'cake' made from crushed up Weetabix??? It almost feels like a cult, with group think, slavish devotion to a leader, constant recruitment of new members/attempts to try and bring back those who have left.

Calorie counting using MyFitnessPal works for me. And weighing myself at home.
I’ve lost 2.5 stone over the last 18 months, with a pregnancy in the middle!
Still another 2.5 to go though.

I go, get weighed and leave.

I dont even actually follow the diet either. But commiting to going with my friend to get weighed ever week is what I need.

I get exactly the same rage. Especially when Susan hasnt lost any weight in 2 years and still doesnt have the basic concept of the diet.

Or Mary who hasnt been able to lose weight because she has been having her kitchen done for 6 months.

Totally agree about the "cult" feel and all the weird food concoctions. The worst one has to be the SW syn free Pimms - lemonade & vinegar. Envy(clearly not envy)

But likewise I do struggle with being self disciplined. I just want to be healthy and feel like I'm looking after myself rather than running myself into the ground and living on sugar.

My Fitness Pal is a good idea, is it still free?

If I've lost weight I don't stay to the meeting. If I haven't then my punishment to myself is to stay. Quite motivational Grin

Blood Sugar Diet/Fast 800. I’m a total convert. Does seem reasonably extreme to onlookers but the science is sound and it works. Haven’t been hungry, have felt satisfied despite the low calories. Does take a bit of planning. I lost nearly a stone in 3 weeks, had to take a break for a few weeks due to personal stuff and the weight’s stayed off, which means I’ve genuinely lost all that fat it’s not just water etc. Getting back onto it stricter tomorrow to fight the next stone. First ‘diet’ that I’ve ever stuck to and been comfortable with (yes I tried SW, didn’t work, doesn’t make sense based on any nutrition science I’ve read)

Buy the Fast 800 book and give it a read, it’s a quick and easy read with all the science to back it up.

Another vote for team RH. I follow them on Facebook and he’s hilarious, very anti ‘Sandra’ (although he calls her Betty 😉)

is it still free?

Yeah. Although you can pay to upgrade I don’t think there’s any need.

Diet clubs generally don’t work, their entire business model is based on the fact that people will put the weight back on again and have to keep coming back and spending money. I don’t know anyone (myself included) who has lost weight with WW or SW and kept it off. These clubs rely on people failing, its how they make money!

I struggle with weight but by far the best approach for me is watching my calorie intake, and upping exercise.

I’m currently using Noom to lose weight. I’ve tried every diet under the sun and this is the only thing that’s ever worked for me, and I really feel like I will go all the way this time. You can do a free 14 day trial to see if you like it.

OP... The way I finally lost weight (and about
5stone at that) was when I finally stopped dieting, stopped thinking like slimming world or ww.
This was 35yrs of yoyo dieting.

Basically food is not good or bad or a syn or a reward.. Its fuel for your body.
You don't reward your car with more fuel than it needs do you?
I had a light bulb moment.. And realised I was fat cus I ate too much.
I ate less (a lot less) and stopped seeing food in terms of good or bad and the weight fell off.
I ate what I wanted when I wanted it... But only if I wanted it because I was properly physically hungry... And I mean really really hungry... Not peckish or bored or stressed or because it was lunch time or whatever.
I listened to my body and it was enlighting. Sometimes I wanted a donut and sometimes a salad but overall I needed a lot less food than I thought.
8 yrs later I am still the same post loss weight
I no longer reward myself nor console myself with food.
I self soothe with good books. A hot bath, a long run or an early night.. I still love eating and enjoy my food immensely but I eat to live now.. Not live to eat

I've lost 19lbs in four weeks on Michael Mosley's Fast 800 diet and it hasn't been nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I have a lot to lose so the quick weight loss has been very motivating, it's also retraining my taste buds to enjoy fresh, unprocessed food.

I'm going to do 8 weeks and then go on to the 5:2 version of the diet. I was skeptical but it's been a revelation. We have a support thread going on if you want to have a read

I read the obesity code and it really helped me. I feel like I know what I'm doing now. I couldn't do diet clubs again, I have in the past.

If the diet clubs really worked then they wouldn’t be full of the same people who have been going for years. They’re like a cult and they get people into really strange beliefs about food - for example SW syns or making muffins out of cardboard and egg white.

I have successfully done SW thrice before
buck I respectifylky suggest that it really hasn’t been successful if you have done it 3 times and need to go again...
I’m overweight myself, yet slimmung clubs are really not helpful for 95% of people long term.

After years of diet clubs and diet books I read Never Binge Again by Glen Livingstone. You can download it free from Amazon. It's a bit of a strange read but it's worked miracles for me. Honestly I'd say give it a go.

Waves! Totally agree - I was running, aerobicing and generally cardioing myself with minimum impact - also eating a silly small amount

Now I also weight train and eat much more real food - it does work
