AIBU?

'Morning sickness' my arse!

I am 6w 3 days pregnant and already completely fed up with feeling sick all the time. ALL THE TIME. It's 11pm here and I can't sleep because of the nausea, after a day in which I spent a total of maybe 2 hours NOT feeling sick.

AIBU to think that calling it 'Morning sickness' is a complete con?

YANBU mine would knock me out for an entire weekend. By Monday I would feel well enough to go to work but felt like crap just from not eating or properly resting all weekend

In months 2-5 I experienced extreme nausea 24/7 but very little actual vomiting. Like I was on a boat in The Deadliest Catch TV show, it was really awful. Nothing helped but the passage of time. By DS' birth I'd put on a kilo of extra weight, as could barely eat anything.

Pregnancy - yeah, fun times!

That's exactly it @KnopeforAmerica, I feel the same and an dreading work tomorrow. Of course I know I'm lucky not to have hyperemesis but this constant nausea is very draining.

Thanks @Littlebird88.

The only comfort I can take is that it is a good sign apparently that the pregnancy is viable. After two and a half years of trying and three miscarriages, I guess I'll be happy to accept this constant nausea in return for a successful pregnancy!

I felt sick 24 hours a day for the first five months of my first pregnancy. I totally sympathise and yes, the name is a total crock of shit!

I hope it eases soon!

I had nausea for the full forty weeks but like you have said OP it’s a very positive sign! Hoping it will pass for you! In the mean time sleep and graze and stay hydrated!

I'm so sorry for you, it is a total swiz and shit.
I had all day nausea up until 12 weeks and lost well over a stone.
Then I perked up and am so glad I can eat normally again.

Don't worry about losing/gaining weight, when I was pg with DD I put on two stone and lost it very quickly (BFing and luck perhaps).
This time round I'm just doing what my body tells me and will sort it all out after baby is born.

You'll feel better soon. Salt and vinegar crisps were good, ginger nuts and wasabi peas were good for me during both PGs.

By the time I had my baby I weighed less than I had at the start of my pregnancy, I was sick so much in those first months. Really not fun, but of course it was worth it.

Look after yourself and just try to only eat or drink things that actually appeal to you, no matter how erroneous your tastes might seem. Whatever you can keep down is what you should be eating, anything else can wait.

no idea why it's called morning sickness, I don't know anyone who had a specific morning bout of that horrendous nausea.

Old women tale is to eat to feel better, as it's worst on an empty stomach. It might be true for some after all. It wasn't true for me or my sisters!

Massive sympathies here. Its a nightmare isn't it. Before I had my dd I nievely used to think.
'Oh pregancy's a doddle. You sit there rubbing your tummy, pondering over baby names ect.'
I soon ate those words. I was repulsed at the thought of rubbing and talking to my stomach.
The thought made me go cold. Can't even explain why. Oh and like you say why do they call it morning sickness. It lasts all day and night. Mine lasted right throughout my pregnancy, too. The night before I had dd I was throwing up. Hopefully though yours will clear up around the 12 week mark. Mine was an extreme case.

Yeah it's a bit of a con op! I had hyperemesis with my twin dd's from about 10 weeks up to about 20 weeks Shock
Couldn't smell any thing too strong, went off tea, even orange juice had to be watered down as the taste was too much! Only things that helped were ice lollies and flat coke.

It will pass I promise
But in the meantime Flowers

I don't know why or how I gained so much weight. The only thing I could keep down was coffee, of all bloody things, and DD was only 6lb 10oz

@Secretlifeofme
It is a great sign of viable pregnancy!! And should rightly be a comfort to you when you are feeling ick and nauseous all day! Be prepared for the sudden (usually harmless) smells that make you retch (for me it was petrol when filling my car and my bosses sardine sandwiches he ate every day! )

I have 3DC and had 3 miscarriages. Nauseous and sick all day for DC1 until mid second trimester. Used to carry plastic bags to pull over & be sick in (if in car) , or a folded up one in my workbag if I was nowhere near a loo, apples in my bag and toothbrush/toothpaste.

Was sick at least 3 times a day for first 5 months but not hypmesis TGFT. He was my bonniest robust of all my babies 😁 And a boy. I was nauseous but less regularly sick for DC2 and DC3 (both DDs). It usually does pass towards end of 2nd trimester unless you are unlucky.

Food I lived on for first 5 months was cold tinned rice pudding, milk, ginger biscuits, plain chicken, salads, cold lasagne and coleslaw straight from the pot which I ate tons of 🤐 🤢.

Also smoked salmon , which for later pgs the advice was maybe only a little of that so I stuck to 3xweek ( I swear that salmon made my children super bright! )

Good luck in your Pg !! Try to keep going and don't be embarrassed about the non-morning all day sickness! I had to let my boss know earlier than 12 weeks each time as I was MrsPukealot!

Yep - sick all day except for a couple of hours each afternoon for 5 months....couldn't touch any kind of meat, chicken especially turned my stomach. Only thing that helped was fizzy tango or Fanta

Replying on the off chance you are on iron tablets. My GP prescribed them in very early pregnancy. I was really nauseous all the time. Mentioned it to my midwife, who asked if I was taking iron. She said that can make nausea worse. Coming off it did help, but it didn't stop completely. I weighed 2lbs less when I gave birth than when first pregnant.
The very thought of chocolate made me throw up, and I craved cabbage of any variety!!

Oh, and I think there should be rule that you are allowed to consider decking anyone that asks "shouldn't you be glowing, it's not that hard work surely?" in Pg !

I confess that on every Pg of mine, I felt like pulling pigtails of pg friends who said how sexy and fantastic they felt and how easy pregnancy was!!!

Don't be afraid to get anti sickness medication if it goes on too long and you're not coping. I know a couple of people that were sick all the way through and left it too long before seeking help.

Congratulations and hope the sickness passes Smile

The correct medical terminology is nausea and vomiting in pregnancy or hyperemesis gravida if severe. I think as women we should start using the correct terminology, and forcing others (particularly hcps to do the same) as I found the term " morning sickness" condescending, belittling and didn't do justice to my suffering.

The morning was often my best time of day, i was constantly nauseous, and it carried on for the whole pregnancy, 8 months of frickin nausea! The only thing that have be a break was taking cyclyzine but each tablet (3 a day) only worked for a few hours and then the relentless nausea was back.

It sucks bigtime.
Mine lasted longer than the first trimester was lied to
But I did find food I could tolerate and other to not even look at.
Tea, tastes worse on the way back up so was out, crackers also tasted bad on the return journey.
Really nasty Chinese egg rolls from the grocery shop tasted like heaven with sweet and sour sauce and stayed down. I tried them once baby was born and they were vile.
It's all trial and error, it doen't last forever, it just feels like it.

I feel you op, 8wks +4 here and have had nausea constantly since 5wks. It sucks and I’m struggling to hide it at work, people keep asking me if I’m okay and I have to keep coming up with excuses Confused mw said it’s a good sign though.

As PP have mentioned, there is medication you can quite safely take if the nausea is unmanageable. You don't have to be throwing up constantly to be entitled to help. My nausea has been so bad at times that my hands have been too shaky to pick things up, and I've felt unsafe to drive, so my doctor has prescribed cyclizine, which has helped immensely. Go see your GP if it's really getting to be too much, there is absolutely no need to just wait it out.

I had 3 pregnancies. First 2 16 weeks all day nausea..2 beautiful babies. 3rd no nausea. Baby died in utero. So, hang on in there and good luck, the nausea could stop any day.
