To be angry with nail tech and possibly report them (pics)

I realise this is one of those "don't you have bigger things to worry about" threads but it's been playing on my mind all day.

I have quite bad scarring on my hands so before having DD I would always get my nails done to give me a little confidence in showing my hands, and I'd always get them done at a certain salon. Since having DD I never had the time to get them done, often kept hands covered in public. Today DH booked me a little pre birthday trip to the same salon as ive been feeling particularly down about my scars and self in general. The lady who used to do my nails was off but her husband who works their too (has for 3 years) said he'd do mine. I've never been seen by anyone else before so I was nervous but let him continue. I asked for almond, rounded nails as I have DD and didn't want anything too pointy. They're horrendous. He burned my cuticles with the nail drill, filed the nails while watching the TV on the wall behind me. Filed so much that he cut my thumb (pic isn't great) but it was bleeding enough to get on the nail file and he put the nail file with my blood on it back in the pot. They're uneven, look awful and I just feel shit. I said I was unhappy and he said I'd have to pay for a replacement set ON TOP of this set. I paid for this one and left. I'm furious!!

Wibu to report him / salon (the whole bloody file thing)? Am I just over reacting?

Shock awful. Report then name and shame on social media.

Op i would definitely complain, he has cut you and caused you to bleed because he was busy watching TV...and if your nails were supposed to look rounded then you didn't get what you paid for, they are wonky in shape...

Op are they your actual nails or false nails/extensions?

The nail file thing sounds like a hygiene issue...I don’t know who you would report it to? Trading Standards maybe at the council offices. That’s really appalling

They look so fake. UUGGHH Report to trading standards,

They're acrylics but my nails were relatively long underneath so he's messed up the natural nails too.

If you can complain then do so.

You shouldn't have just paid and left, though.

Witchy finger nails, not 'Mummy' finger nails. Complain.

Report
Nicknacky · 22/09/2018 23:35

They are god awful. Why did you pay?

ferntwist · 22/09/2018 23:35

Owch. You poor thing! Definitely report him and complain. Not on at all. Horrendous to hurt you and make you bleed.

Report
Popc0rn · 22/09/2018 23:37

Complain and get them off! How can you do anything with those things on your fingers?!

Oh OP, is this a salon in Ruislip Manor by any chance? They're absolutely shit!! Sounds just like the main guy, the owner, absolute horrible guy and so rude! You should not have paid!! It might seem like a small thing but they shouldn't bludgeon your hands doing this, I think sometimes they forget that we're paying them for a service, not that they're doing us a favour!!

You can sort out the shape with a coarse nail file. It doesn't change the fact that he did a crap job, but you can make it look better. If they're too thick you can buff them down too, and paint with regular polish. Polish doesn't take long to dry on acrylics.

Popc0rn · 22/09/2018 23:38

Also, they use a 'nail drill' for acrylics? Shock I'll stick to standard manicures and shellac!

Can you show them to his wife? If you’ve been happy for the past three year she might be mortified and sort them out. They look awful! But I’m not a nail person so wouldn’t really know.

This was the reference I showed him. Definitely not what I wanted. I paid and left because I hate confrontation and he said I still had to pay for the set. I sent his wife an email.

They look like claws! I wouldn’t have paid, that was a silly thing to do. Surely you realised what a mess he was making after he did the first one?

Report
Popc0rn · 22/09/2018 23:54

Second pic looks nice, definitely didn't get what you asked for! Hopefully she'll offer to refund and/or fix the bad job. I know what you mean about hating confrontation, it physically hurts me to complain about stuff like this, so I probably would have paid too Blush.

Shock wtf?! I had no idea pointed nails like they were a thing? Are they a thing? Are there people who actually want what he gave you?

Report
littlemisscomper · 23/09/2018 00:00

Bloody hell!!! I hope you get your money back OP, and get them sorted out for free. Then run for the hills and don't look back!

Shock

That is horrific.

You mentioned that this might be a first world problem- out that out of your head. Getting my nails done is a big treat, especially since having the baby and not really bothering with hair and make up regularly anymore. It’s the one thing that makes me feel polished, so don’t apologise for expecting better.

Who do you complain to though? The nail tech I go to is fantastic, really highly trained and takes real pride in her work. She’s conatantly giving out that anyone can do a 2 day course and next thing set themselves up as a professional nail tech as there’s no qualifications or governing body over that part of the beauty industry.

Did he just think 'hey this manicuring people malarky looks like a piece of piss, I'll have a go..'. and picked up a nail file for the first time in his life?

Poor you, and how fucking annoying. I'd send what you have written above to them and tell them you would like a free replacement set, done by someone competent, immediately.

Report
lelepond · 23/09/2018 00:03

Jesus, they look like bird talons (no offence). I would be pissed too, they're not even the right colour. GO BACK.

I meant essential qualifications in that last post!

I've had worse from those places tbh.

I hate the places that use electric files, I cringe every time they use them as they hurt so much.

Op I can't say much for what to do about the salon but go and find a gel nail technician who will do what acrylics do, without the horrific electric machines.

I think it's called builder gel and it doesn't damage your natural nail whilst still getting the desired effect

i've rarely seen anything uglier....definitely buyer beware and don't go back...were you not watching her? when i have a manicure they do one nail at a time...you should have caught this early on.
