The school mums whatsapp...

AIBU to say it drives me potty?

You have -

  • the "alright hon" brigade who share any old shit and everything is "amazing babe"
  • the "informer" who likes to be able to be the first to break all school news to everyone even though it has been emailed
  • the "school can do no wrong brigade" who if anyone questions the logic of anything the school are doing generally pounce and accuse others of being unsupportive
  • the "on it all day" who comment on everything
  • the "teacher brigade" mum teachers who like to give a school view on everything without actually taking on board what someone has just asked
  • the "wind up merchant" who comments just to poke the "alright hon" monotony
  • the "what's for lunch" brigade every day at 8.55 am - read the bloody menu!

Please add to the list any characters I have missed.

And yes I have left it before but I was missing too much actual useful info. I would just like it if it could be reduced to actual useful information like school is shut it's snowing! (Somehow it breaks on here before the official website)

Rant over.

I know exactly what you mean. There is one in our group who son just has to be the best at everything then someone else comes in with how much better their child is.
Tbh I am only in it so I don’t forget when it’s school tie or assemblies that sort of stuff or otherwise I would leave.

kimber83 · 17/07/2018 22:28

This isn't an official communication channel by the school, no? (I ask because there's no dads mentioned- are they not present in this group?)

It sounds like a social group that you don't get anything useful from.

So just leave the group. Or mute it to stay on it for emergencies (snow days)

Gardenpicnic · 17/07/2018 22:29

Nope. Ours is really useful, people post h/work, event reminders, etc.
Don't have any of your lot Confused

peoplearemean · 17/07/2018 22:31

@kimber83 unofficial yes. The dad's have their own one which is largely full of filth and lots more interesting so I'm told...

I have no idea who anyone is I just see the chat but blimey it’s useful in a way newsletters and emails from the school weren’t - I think I developed school newsletter blindness

crisscrosscranky · 17/07/2018 22:34

I'm not part of a school mum whatsapp group- are they normal!?

DD is about to go into Y6 so I've obviously missed the boat!

CrackerCrisp · 17/07/2018 22:37

I don’t think there are any of those on ours. I find it useful for when the DC spring something on you you feel like you should have known about. Plus homework, inset days etc.

ILoveDolly · 17/07/2018 22:37

I love The Informer Mum. Without her I would fail to remember all the stuff. I have 3dc at two different schools and get 100000000 emails so it's really easy to miss the odd thing.

Temporaryanonymity · 17/07/2018 22:40

None like that in the year 4 group. Most of us have got older kids so we are all a bit fed up of primary school and over the competitive parent thing. The year 6 group has some seriously competitive parenting going on. It's exhausting. They are handy people to have around though; always first to organise collections etc.

Notso · 17/07/2018 22:41

No class whatsapp here. There was/is a Facebook group but I left when some parents got nasty and the head started threatening legal action.
I'm on PTA Whatsapp but that's mostly just functional stuff with occasional joking.

ichifanny · 17/07/2018 22:43

The cynical Mum who has done it all before and can’t get excited or worked up about anything

Attic14 · 17/07/2018 22:47

A school Mum whatsapp group? What possesses anyone to hand over their number and get involved in that kinda shit 😂

miaowpc · 17/07/2018 22:50

The 'health scare mum' ..... does this rash look like scarlet fever? The dr says it is but I'm not sure so I've sent KellyAnn to school anyway but now I am not sure????

GreenTulips · 17/07/2018 22:53

You forgot the 'they've misspelt Wedsday' int he school letter 'and they're teaching our kids to reeeeeaad' brigade

DontCallMeCharlotte · 17/07/2018 22:54

If my grown-up niece on FB is anything to go by, I'm guessing there's a "has anyone got a [insert item of fancy dress clothing] for [school event] I can borrow?. Need it for this afternoon." one.

Undercoverbanana · 17/07/2018 22:56

A School Mums WhatsApp group?

Dear God in heaven, I’m glad my children are adults.

All I had to contend with were the Playground Power Mums. Bitches, every one.

peoplearemean · 17/07/2018 22:57

@miaowpc oh yes definitely have health scare mum plus her oversharing of every detail and updates of when DD is feeling better (!) (quickly followed by "aww babe") Grin

We have a really lovely WhatsApp group - very supportive, funny, informative. Sorry!

peoplearemean · 17/07/2018 23:01

@Undercoverbanana yes the power bitches are now coming at you digitally and what gets me is they are often the ones that make out so meek and mild face to face but then see fit to hoist their opinion on what should be happening or often defend the school to the hilt if someone has an opinion or question on the school they disagree with. They normally have older kids so have done it all before but seek to impart their wisdom on newbies. Thank the lord I rarely encounter them in the flesh.

Jesus, my kid starts school in September and I was intending to push him in there and go to work. I'm praying I don't have to start giving my number out 🙈 whatsapp with a loaf of people I don't know doesn't not sound like my cup of tea!

As far as I know there is no school what’s app group, I wouldn’t be on it even if there was. They all talk loud enough for us to hear everything anyway. I know a few have all chipped in for a gift for my DD teacher who is leaving. I think they all have each other on facebook but that’s it.

peoplearemean · 17/07/2018 23:04

@AFistfulofDolores1 aww babes that's lovely (😂)

To be fair there are some lovely people on mine but also some real pieces of work.
