I need opinions on this dress for the Mother Of The Bride.

I want some opinions.
My sister is getting married this year in June, we're all very excited. Our mom, the Mother Of The Bride, is thinking of wearing this dress. The replica dress Bella Swan wears on her wedding day (but not during the actual wedding) to my sister's wedding.
I said as it's a very light colour and a bit short, it's a little bit bad taste and is pretty much as good as wearing white. My Mom says as it's cream it's not actually white it's a reasonable choice.
I said I'd ask you lovely people to make the decision for us, one way or the other.
Do you think it's appropriate for the Mother Of The Bride to wear this to her daughter's wedding?

Just the dress? Or with a coloured jacket or something over it?

I think it's quite plain and casual for a wedding, to be honest.

I'll be honest, I don't think it's inappropriate due to colour or length but it is very boring for a wedding! It looks a bit office wear to me.

Nope, not suitable.

Cream dress is fine, but I'd expect her to choose coloured accessories to go with it. Navy would be classic, but any colour would be fine.

I don't really understand why the mother of the bride needs two outfits, though?

I personally wouldn't be happy about it, although it would depend on how it fits on her. But honestly it's all about whether your sister is ok with it. Have you asked her?

I'm with your mum, no-one is going to confuse her for the bride (personally the dress isn't something I'd wear as MOTB but that is personal) - the colour is not the reason I would not wear it, it just isn't my thing

To be honest, it doesn't really look like a mother of the bride dress to me. Could she put a little jacket with it and take away from the"whiteness" a bit?

I think she should try a bit harder, tbh.

Too close to white or cream, which wedding dresses often are, and it's boring and plain to boot.

Too plain, and it CREASES like mad!

And it's cream too.

Tell mum to get a different dress, it is not as it there aren't thousands out there.

No, not suitable.

Really don't like it. Too casual and pretty uninspiring.

Don't think bride would mind as is a casual style dress and obviously not chosen to upstage but other guests might have opinions about someone wearing white/cream to a wedding? Also might not look great in pictures? My mums dress and hat matched my flowers so in our photos I had my ivory dress and flowers which she matched and photos looked really connected and my mum stood out in a really nice way? I don't know if your in UK but jaques vert did my mum, mil and grandmas dresses that were all lovely? Also I got asked to go with all 3 to choose the dresses with them! How did your sister get out of that activity!!!!

Your DM is BVU to take style advice from Twilight. I don't think the dress is totally inappropriate but I'm sure she could find something much better. How does your sister feel?

A grown woman can wear whatever she wants.

The dress is obviously not a wedding dress, obviously not white, and noone would mistake a mother of a bride for a bride.

I will not even comment on the "it's a bit short" complaint - at what age are women required to don the burqua to stop offending the world with their not-anymore-teenage-looking knees?

Seems to me that your mum is trying to upstage the bride. Firstly, by wearing a cream dress and secondly by changing into a different outfit. Perhaps she has forgotton that it is not HER wedding! Anyway, it isn't suitable as a mother of the bride outfit. A gentle word in her ear might do the trick. Enjoy the wedding ye all.

No, not suitable for MOTB, she shouldn't wear white/cream and apart from that, it's just a boring plain dress you might wear to the office, but not a wedding.

Personally I think it would look like she has just left the office and not bothered to get changed. Far too plain and boring.

Is it a casual wedding?
That looks like something I would wear to work.
Surely it's her chance to dress up in something fabulous.
And NOT in a similar colour to her DD dress!!!
I find it a very odd choice!

Bit short for a wedding should I have said. A smarter occasion. She can wear what she wants. We said we'd ask the public.
She's decided to get a new dress, but one that's a bit more classy and stylish as she does admit it's a bit dull.
And we are in the UK, she is 43 and says Jacques Vert is a little bit of an older style than she would like.

Ok so she is the same age as me, the length is fine but the colour is bland. What is the colour scheme for the wedding, could she not pick out the colour of the flowers etc and go for something along those lines? Phase Eight do some lovely dresses that could work, go to a John Lewis or Debenham's and have a look and try different ones on

I don't know about the creasing but I think it's lovely. I would wear it.
