to think couples wearing matching outfits is a bit odd

Just that really, having driven through town today and been struck by the number of mainly middle-aged couples wearing matching jackets and in some cases matching trousers too. DH has the fashion sense of a colour-blind mosquito, hates clothes shopping and doesn't give a fuck what he looks like, but even he resorts to stealing old clothes from his brother and BIL rather than asking me to pick up two of whatever I'm buying for myself.

I have the same type of coat as my husband. It's a great make with a limited amount of quite gender neutral styles...we both also own blue jeans. What can I say, we have impeccable taste.

I think it happens unintentionally sometimes too. Living together a long time means sometimes you start to influence each others colour choices ect. This can lead to 'matching outfits'. Been there

I do find it amusing.

DH doesn't care, but it's annoying when I have to get changed because we are all wearing the same combo - I don't know something like jeans + black top. I am less bothered when we are both wearing a black suit and a white shirt for some reasons (and it's not something that the kids would wear).

When I was a teen a couple who ran my youth group would do this from time to time. At first it was super cringy. But later I found it sweet, they were lovely and it amused them.

DP and I once went out both wearing Lynard Skynrd t-shirts by accident once and I was that people might think we deliberately matched our clothes.

But I have noticed that matching clothes on older couples do tend to be a thing.

Many couples kind of 'merge' into one person though, matching coats, joint finances, joint facebook account and seem to be 'as one'.

If they're happy then I'm happy. It's kind of cute.

I find it quite refreshing to see women who've reached a stage in their life where they give no fucks about looking "pretty" before going out in public.

We all have matching Regatta fleeces in different colours for camping trips. I'm getting there meself.

I sometimes do this to DH just to wind him up for example my mum knitted the whole family matching jumpers (which are lovely) but occasionally when DH puts his on I will dress the kids and I in decoy jumpers when we leave the house. As soon as we reach our destination we all out on the ones to match DH and revel in his mild discomfort. When the kids are old enough to care about being cool it's going to be even more fun

There was a thread recently about woman who pack for their DHs for holidays, which transpired that he majority of the packers also bought all their DHs clothes for him like he was a child . Lots of posters found this idea that once married, men stop making any decisions about their clothing perfectly normal and common.

So given that many men are dressed entirely in clothes their DWs have picked for them, it's hardly surprising many of the woman pick clothes they quite like themselves, so pick very similar things.
