I ordered hair dye recently. They substituted it for a different hair dye, like they know what colour i want my hair to be! However, if i order something like a pepperoni pizza it's "not available". So there's no other types of pepperoni pizza anywhere? Or even a pizza you think i might like instead. But you're happy to choose my hair colour!? Ok so i can give the hair dye back and get a refund, but i still don't have a pizza for tea Grin

Op I toggle it to say what I do and don't want subs of. Funnily when I say no to any subs there's often a full house. I wonder if they sub when stock on the wanted item is low?

I keep forgetting to do that! If i ever order my hair dye again I'll do a "no sub" toggle!

They probably thought you had a hot date and didn't want to see you stuck.

Re the pizza - that is weird, agreed, but they probably thought you could dial up for one of those.

And might try no subbing everything. But would probably get nothing Grin!

My sister had a Linda McCartney pie substituted with a steak pie.

One of the funniest subs I've ever heard of, was a pack of Tena Ladies for what should have been sanitary towels Grin

I can just imagine the picker's face, while they were thinking "Yeah these will do. Same thing really innit" Grin

Like the thought that they're concerned about a hot date Lord! Was rather they were concerned about my pizza cravings!

This annoys me.

Say when I order a certain type of pizza, maybe a pepperoni goodfellas one, instead of subbing for an Asda or a Chicago town pepperoni one, they send a different topping by goodfellas! Why?!?!

They once sent me two shampoos when the conditioner was out of stock. Why?!!!??!

I was cooking a roast for some friends and ordered from Tesco - everything arrived ok, potatoes, veg etc. but instead of a whole chicken, they substituted a chicken sandwich....

Had good one once: ordered bottle of cheap own brand "Baileys" from Tesco for DDs cocktail party, but they were out of stock so gave me TWO bottles of real Baileys instead. Price match refund £20!

I did this shopping picking job for two miserable shifts a few years ago.
The store I did it at sent the shopper pickers out at 4am, 2 hours before the new stock arrived so people who'd ordered early morning deliveries were dealt with first and ended up with loads of subs or nothing if they didn't want subs and the later people got everything because stock had arrived by then. Madness!

I LOVE the funny subs threads... blatant placemark.

The worst sub I ever got was a lemon cheese cake replaced with lemon fairy liquid and the best was a hunters chicken sauce that wasn't in stock so replaced with two foil bake hunters chicken bakes and a refund.

I'll need to remember that one Barry, and order for later on. My ASDA delivery this week had seven substitutions and five items not available, all of which were fresh fruit. 🙄🙄😒😒

I saw one on Twitter a while back where someone who had ordered strawberry jelly cubes had it replaced with KY jelly _

Last week I ordered a bottle of wine and received a bottle of beer in its place. I would have been perfectly happy with a different white wine! Both the delivery man and I were a bit Hmm over that one!

I had that last week, they apparently had no sandwich chicken! Surely they had some kind of chicken they could have given me!

I think the people who pick the substitutes are just a bit daft sometimes!

The other week I'd ordered a 4 pint bottle of semi skimmed milk. It was out of stock and apparently no substitute available. So there was not a drop of semi skimmed or indeed any other milk in the whole of Sainsbury's. Hmm

I've also had the same with pizzas...pepperoni out of stock and no other pizzas available.

Xmas delivery turkey dinosaurs instead of family sized turkey!

Strawberry shower gel instead of strawberries

And rice pudding not Christmas pudding

Xmas dinner could have been interesting in our house!

I worked as a picker for Asda when I was a student, and there are different people pick different areas, so you may have had four of five people pick your total order, frozen, chilled, fruit n veg ambient etc.

You get marked down if you do not substitute with SOMETHING.
Our manager pulled us in for reviews once a month to discuss things like pick rate and substitutes, and at our store you were not allowed to 'nil pick' you had to substitute something, even if it was random, as you may make a sale....which is hilarious because really it ends up creating more work as then you end up with returns

Many of the pickers are school leavers or uni students on min wage, so don't really have the experience to know what may be a good substitute, really they don't actually care they are on minimum wage and are not planning to make a career out of t his, they just want the managers off their back. Also pickers start work at 4 or 5am so are exhausted as is quite physically demanding work and then are probably going straight to lectures etc

Now I order from asda home delivery service and I thin its a great service, you pay a few quid for someone to walk around the shp for you, pick pack and deliver. I love it, and if the substitutes bad you can send it back you are under NO obligation to keep it - however often the substitutes are better and higher value but you pay the same price

Xmas delivery turkey dinosaurs instead of family sized turkey!

HAHAHAHAHAH I had to laugh at this

Your meal was probably picked by a 17 year old who still lived at home with his mummy though - do you see what I mean, many pickers have no life experience and its just a means to an end for them

Asda once substituted a large packet of nappies (that were on an amazing offer) for a pack of 12 toilet rolls?!

Also once (sainsburys) had fishfingers as a substitute for burgers

Its a bit odd sometimes. usually they get it right but sometimes its so weird...
