To think school trip to science museum tomorrow is not a great idea ! After Westminster.

My daughters school have a trip arranged for tomorrow to the science museum in London. I know I'm gonna look like a bubble wrapper, but I'm not sure why but I'm not comfortable with the idea of a school taking a group of 100 kids to a known landmark and possible terror target , just a few days after what has just happened.

I know the threat is more likely to be for political places , but look at the bataclan (sp) and beach attacks. I know we should be standing firm and not be cowed, bu my daughter is profoundly deaf on one side and as a result gets lost easily and struggles in busy places. Should something happen even nearby, I'm not sure she would be able to react quickly etc.

I'm also annoyed because the statement sent out, was quite insensitive about what happened and was full of feeble reasons as to why they could not cancel (it would cost them to re book the coaches, the terror threat has not been raised and they have plenty of staff).

I used to work in the West End, when 7/7 happened and still went to work, so I'm no snowflake....

I don't agree. I think it's the right decision to go ahead. Security will be stepped up all across London anyway so it's probably one of the safest times to go. I'm sure this school will have tightened up their emergency plans.

Simple. Don't send her.

I would go if it were me. I would probably take my children. But the difference is I would be with them.

If you aren't happy to send her, keep her home.

I think it's normal to feel anxious about it but I think it would be unreasonable to cancel. Mainly for the not giving in to them, cowing, etc. You know really that attacks like this are astonishingly rare and security will be heightened.

I totally understand the idea that we all carry on and security will be tighter etc, but like you, I would have the fear and not want to send my DS.

Are you able to go with her? Also how does your DD feel about it all?

I totally understand why you are feeling worried - but at the same time, on a rational level, I assume you know that they will be fine.

I don't really feel that the risk tomorrow is any greater than last week or last month.
But your child, your choice.

Is it possible for you to accompany the trip, as a parent/helper ? I second what purple said though - its probably the safest time for them to go

The risk is no higher than Yesterday morning or Tuesday.

I was in London today (usually go once/twice a week). It honestly felt no different to me, higher police presence than usual but nothing else everyone just getting on with their days.
If anything the higher Police presence means the streets are safer than before Wednesday.

Honestly, it's probably safer now. I work v near the incident site and the police presence in the city has dramatically increased. Today was just a normal day. We have to go to work and I refuse to change my behaviour because of the actions of a few.

She should absolutely go. The likelihood of anything happening to her is vanishingly small.

I work about 200m from where it happened and I was in work both when it happened yesterday, and at 8am this morning. Along with hundreds of colleagues. We are still as safe as we were on Monday.

Presumably the school know about her deafness on one side and would act accordingly in any kind of emergency?

Normal to feel worried but presumably they are getting coach to right outside, straight in and back on the coach. If they were walking around all landmarks that's different. Though someone could drive a car down any street so unless kids in London stop going out ever not much else we can do.

The odds of being killed in a terrorist arrack are something like two thousandths of 1%. We are way more likely to be killed in a road accident - the odds are something like 30 times more than that.
She'll be absolutely fine I'm sure.

I get how you must be feeling, but there's more police and security in London now than there was at the start of the week.

She's probably at greater risk traveling by road to get there than from any terrorist. Sorry, not helpful :(

I work 20 mins walk from Westminster and catch the tube twice a day. I agree with Running, Wigeon and Amber, there are police everywhere but otherwise it feels no different from usual.

This. It's hard to get your head around amidst all the awful news at the moment, but this is the thing to focus on. If you drive your child to school tomorrow, that will be the riskiest thing she does all day.

I understand your concerns. My son is off to paris with the school in July. I don't want him to go but I can't let fear rule our lives. I'll be glad when he's home

I was in central London for most of the day today, DCs catch the tube to school. Everything seems as normal. I was really pleased to see how busy everywhere was, it seems as if everyone was just back to normal.
