To ask Nursery to pay for new shoes

One of my DD shoes vanished at Nursery. She's two so she didn't loose it herself, its a private type of Nursery. Shoes were Clark's and a few weeks old. If its not offered I feel like it should be taken off my (considerable) monthly bill. Aibu?

Yes I would tell them I was buying new shoes and would give them the receipt. I work in a nursery and we would refund if the shoe couldn't be located, we would have a really good look for it first though. ( The bin is always a good place to start ).

It all my years of nursery work we have never had a shoe go missing and not been able to find it. You have to think like a 2 year old and look in every toy box and home area cupboard.

Sorry but YABU. Children lose shoes. It's frustrating but not the nursery's fault. I sympathise though. DS2 lost one of a £60 pair of shoes at that age, thankfully we found it before I had to replace them.

Disclaimer: they were special nhs boots paid for by the nhs if grown out of or by parents if lost. I'm not in the habit of buying £60 shoes for the dc!

Sorry op you really have no clue I used to child mind I had a child kick his foot forcefully when the doors open on the bus the timerland went flying before I could do anything the bus was on its way


I also had one child who was being potty trained wee in his shoe because he really needed a wee and another child was on the potty I was in the kitchen

Children in general hate shoes and they take them off throw them other children remove them ect

She went home in borrowed wellies. When I say she didn't loose it, I put it in her shelf in morning and by break time it was not there. My old Nursery always offered to replace lost items. I never insisted becuase it wasn't a new shoe.

How has it got lost? Have you asked them to check everywhere? You're being rather precious saying she didn't lose it herself... That's what toddlers do. They lose things.

She didn't loose it! The kids don't even have access to the room where bags and shoes go and they don't wear shoes whilst there unless outside. They have looked everywhere, I don't think they will find it unless another parent has it by mistake (unlikely as it went in morning)

Sorry to be pedantic but it's LOSE and not LOOSE. LOOSE means the opposite of tight. LOSE is a verb which means to mislay.

It has probably been knocked into the bag / box / whatever of another child, and will reappear at some point.

I sympathise OP - I'd be very annoyed. Not sure whether I could justify asking the nursery to pay for a new pair though.

And for what it's worth, my toddler's never even attempted to take off his shoes, let alone kicked them off a bus/at other kids etc. I wouldn't call that standard! Maybe I just tie his laces too tight ;)

How can my DD have lost it, being locked in another room.... She's two years old, locked inside a building with no access to her bag or shoes. That's why I am insistent it was not her and I won't be persuaded it was. I accept when she does lose things, yes it happens

Oh this happened to my first child. I was annoyed too as they were brand new. My daughter thought they were last seen near the sand pit (it was massive) I dug for ages and it never showed up. I never knew where it went, so was pretty annoyed. Sent her off in cheaper shoes in the end. I learnt my lesson. So annoying tho. Wish I'd thought to charge the preschool but then again I suppose it must happen a lot.
