I think he's seen the Paris shooting as a chance to grab the limelight and feed his bloody messiah complex.

I agree that he's often a pillock. But I think that playing the postponed gig as soon as they could rearrange it was the right thing to do.

In the main I think he's a pillock. A massive pillock in fact.

But I think this was a nice thing to do.

My favourite joke - what's the difference between God and Bono?
God doesn't think he's Bono....

I heard him speak French on the news. Insult to injury.

Yadnbu. He is a pillock, and this has certainly ensured lots more publicity for his weaselly self and his band. I do believe his intentions were, at the very least, self serving.

I usually groan as soon as he opens his gob but in this case i think this was a decent thing to do and bringing out Eagles of Death metal was really genuine . Yanbu generally he is a pillock

I can't abide Bono, but I was having similar thoughts about Eagles of Death Metal (is that what they're called?) when I heard the new this morning. Hands up if you'd heard of them a month ago and now they're playing with U2.

YABU.

Good on ya, Bono and U2. He tries to show support and that's what matters. It's a political statement and a decent gesture to the Eagles of Death.

So what if he's a bit of twit at times?!

MrsJayy · 08/12/2015 17:46

I dont think they played that long but it was a gesture to paris imo

OldCrowMedicineShow · 08/12/2015 17:49

Yaslightlybu, it was a giving gesture and the lead singer of the Eagles of Death looked petrified at the size of the crowd but it showed Solidarity.

I think it was a lovely thing to do. I'm not sure why everyone always has to be so negative about everything.

Re Bono, judgemental, but fair enough.

Report
Sallystyle · 08/12/2015 18:00

Bono did not do this for publicity. He has enough if it already, he doesn't need more fame or money.

He did it show solidarity. I know it's very fashionable to hate Bono right now, but he has done a lot for charities and even got his hands dirty doing so. He has done a lot of good.

I do think it's funny how everyone focuses on the bad bits.

No one mentions the good he has done. Perhaps people don't realise what he has done. Maybe they should google. He does genuinely care.

Yes, as much as I love him he is a bit gobby, but that should not override the great stuff he has done.

I can't stand Bono generally, but I think this was a nice thing to do.

He didn't see the shootings as an opportunity; they were scheduled to play, obviously couldn't, and the right thing was to return and play the postponed shows as soon as possible.

And why not invite Eagles of Death Metal to join them?

All thoroughly decent, IMO.

I have no opinion on him either way

But I think this was a nice thing to do

I'm not uncompassionate but Bono seems to just latch on to 'safe causes' and charities, just to boost his 'radical credentials' - and public profile.

You never heard him / U2 stand up for Wikileaks, play in Gaza, speak out about Ireland. Thatcherism/Tories, and nothing on Iraq. They have used Live Aid, 9/11 and now Paris to hog the limelight. I heard it reported that the lead singer of the Eagles of Death Metal was embraced onstage by 'none other than Bono', as though Bono was sodding Jesus....How cringeworthy was that?

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he has a marketing team advising him on how best to exploit these golden opportunities for self promotion.

You have never heard Bono speak out about Ireland? I have.

Iraq, wrong again.

He doesn't need self-promotion. They sold out on their world tour straight away. They have millions of fans, they had millions of money. They do not need exploit these 'golden opportunities' I am pretty sure Bono doesn't need to support all the charities that he supports for self- promotion.

Despite the hate for them on MN, they have a massive fan base and have been going since the early 70's. They don't need promotion.

Like Bono or not, I think it is pathetic to accuse him of using Paris to hog the limelight. It's fun to talk about what a twat he is, but he has done so much good for so many charities and the fact that he can be a bit gobby and come across as god like, doesn't take away from that fact.
