Or is it that I am so proud of my own daughter for working lots of shifts in student bars whilst studying for end of year exams, to pay for her PADI in UK waters, as well as passing the theory, supporting small Britsh businesses, seems slightly worthier? There is bigger news in the world this weekend.

What's your AIBU? Congrats to your daughter btw.

tarashill Sun 02-Aug-15 17:28:33

What's PADI?

elizadolittlechoc Sun 02-Aug-15 17:36:44

Scuba diving course. Perhaps the Beeb wanted to squeeze a bit of 'good' news in this weekend, but the idea of someone passing the course on a luxury Caribbean holiday ( blimey didn't she want o spend some time with the kids after that demanding day in Portsmouth last Sunday in the rain?)hmm

She shouldn't be doing PADI considering that her DH is president of BSAC.

Hats off to her however, learning to scuba dive includes some pretty unpleasant exercises.

She should have done it in my club, then she could have done her open water lessons in the cold quarries of northern England grin

Poor love though. Bar work is nothing to her struggles to keep the house clean with two babies underfoot while holding down a demanding job smiling and waving, sometimes even when she doesn't feel like it. She can go on holiday. She needs a break from all the maternity leave, if nothing elsegrin

This is a slow news week. A lion made the front page of the tabloids.

Bambambini Sun 02-Aug-15 17:54:15

Nay, screw doing your boring OW course dives in Stoney Cove or Babbacombe (through Babbacombe is rather nice) - I did my theory and pool dives in the UK and referred to somewhere warm with good visibility for the OW dives. I'm with Kate on this one!

I thought the same OP. Why the heck is it news?

No one is interested, it's not going to benefit anyone except her, she did it on a luxury holiday. Who cares?

elizadolittlechoc Sun 02-Aug-15 18:01:50

I'm mostly cross with the BBC for thinking I would be pleased to hear the 'fantastic' news of the privileged class. My daughter's achievement is actually something much more to be proud of (ridiculously proud mum who won't be over sharing same on FB).

PtolemysNeedle Sun 02-Aug-15 18:04:53

I'm interested, it's always nice to know about a new diver.

I'm with Kate too, it's nice to qualify somewhere that you can see your instructor clearly and maybe also see a fish that isn't grey or brown.

Can't say I think there's anything 'worthy' about paying for your own OW course wherever you choose to do it. No one learns to dive for the sake of supporting British business.

One day DD hopes to save enough to do volunteer work in marine conservation somewhere warmer. She did stuff in quarries...totally agree, Ego.

fancyanotherfez Sun 02-Aug-15 18:19:50

Really it goes to show just how out of touch the palace media machine are if they think that news of Kate's luxury holiday in Mustique would endear the public to her when her nicknames arw Duchess Dolittle and waity Katie? What do they think her reputation is? Sounds more like they hate her and want everyone to think she really is a waste of space!

DadfromUncle Sun 02-Aug-15 19:09:15

YANBU most of what the BBC (and worse) call News isn't.

DadfromUncle Sun 02-Aug-15 19:10:12

Actually it's a surprise BBC didn't send Nicolas Witchell (or whoever it is these days) to report live from the frigging airport.

MarshaBrady Sun 02-Aug-15 19:12:21

I didn't see it, but if they didn't get regular press we'd probably forget they exist.

When is she back to work or is she still on maternity leave?

BertrandRussell Sun 02-Aug-15 19:23:26

When is she back to work or is she still on maternity leave?"

How would we tell?

StitchingMoss Sun 02-Aug-15 19:24:04

The Royal Family are the new opium of the masses, OP. Doff your cap and be impressed at a woman who's done nothing of any note with her life doing something else of no interest to anyone but herself.

But they'll be plenty of people along to tell you how hard they work and how much we should respect them hmm.
