I just don't get it, you will get it super hot and can't drink until its cooled down. Won't it taste funny? Waste of energy IMO.

In all my 34 years on Earth, I have never ever even once seen this happen.

Who does this? Name names!

YANBU. I can't drink microwaved tea. I cringe when my mum does it.

Incidentally she only microwaves it when it's gone cold, none of this madness you describe in the OP.

The only people I know who do this like their coffee so milky that even when they add water, their drink is cold, so they microwave it in order to have a hot drink.

I know I'm a heathen when it comes to milk first/last rules of tea making (I don't care!) but microwave??

Wronger than a wrong thing.

Two people in my office do it.

I used to live with someone who made pasta, drained it, stired through pesto, heated it up again in the pan, then grated cheese on it and then microwaved it for a few mins. That pissed me off also as we had a tiny kitchen.

Oh and then pasta girl would blow on her food and eat it with her mouth open as was really hot.

I do this with coffee now - never used to.,
Either with quite milky coffee to make sure it is hot, or with real coffee which has cooled down while brewing.
Wouldn't do it with fresh tea, but would reheat if it'd gone cold, which often happens at work. Smile

Not guilty: I don't like milk in coffee, full stop.

I used to go out with someone whose family always heated up the milk for their coffee in a saucepan before putting it in the coffee. I once witnessed him drop the saucepan and some of the milk went on his mum's cat. So I actually know what a scalded cat really sounds like (not nearly as dramatic as you might think)!

I've never seen such a thing. My microwave only gets used about three times a year to cook a ready meal. The rest of the time I keep the peg basket or defrosting meat in it.

However I do put hot milk in real coffee. I used to warm it in a saucepan but now I have a frother.

If you're not having to drink it why does it matter?

What is this madness??? Almost as bad as those who put milk in with the tea bag before adding water looking at you DP.

I've NEVER seen this happen. Warming up tea/coffee that's gone a bit cold, yes. But microwaving a freshly made one? Madness.

Who the hell cares if they do it or not? It's their choice and they're fully entitled to do it if they want to. What a stupid thing to be judgemental about. Live and let live.

Tsk.

Those who are getting exercised that anyone would have the temerity to discuss this subject, perhaps don't bother with the thread if it annoys you?

I couldn't give a shit what others do with their hot beverage of choice. I am also fairly lax in my requirements on the vanishingly rare occasions someone else makes me a hot beverage.

Rightly or wrongly, the question has been posed as an AIBU. Thus it invites responses which agree or disagree.

I once dumped a guy because the morning after I'd first stayed over at his house, my tea had gone cold and he refused to let me make a fresh one, and insisted on reheating the cold tea in the microwave.

I'm guilty of putting milk and tea bag in before hot water. I thought that was the right way to make a cuppa or have I been doing it wrong for the last 25 years?

Report
cardibach · 13/07/2015 19:30

Yes jules! Completely wrong! Tea needs boiling water to brew properly, so milk should be added after if it is made in the cup.

I do this when I make proper coffee using an Aeropress. It doesn't make the coffee "super hot", I do it for exactly long enough to raise it to the same temperature an instant coffee would be.

My microwave is used as an extra cupboard:) and I put the milk in my cup first when making a cup of tea.
Never heard of anyone warming up a drink in the microwave though!

I like milky coffee, so put half a cup of milk in the microwave for 1min before adding the coffee and hot water.

I do this with cafetière coffee, even when I warm it it seems to leak heat and with our pod machine it ends up warm after it dribbles into a cold cup. I only use a splash of milk but I like my coffee very hot otherwise I have to gulp it so the end won't be freezing.
