When do you stop? When they leave home - or what?

Stockings never stop.

My DSis and I sneak extra bits in so that they become more of a surprise for everyone, but they never stop. And all visitors have one each as well.

Ohhh...errrrm...never! Xmas Blush

Because my kids have varied age gaps (22yrs, 14yrs, 11yrs), I always provided a stocking for the one/ones who no longer believed in FC...so that the younger one/ones felt happy they were still involved.

Well now none of them believe and my 22yr old has just left here with his girlfriend, her DD and 3 Santa sacks full of Christmas crap Xmas Grin

Incidentally, DH has just put the younger kids stuff in their sacks and the bottom burst out of one of them....showering the carpet with Smarties.

Never.

I had my first stocking at 22. I never had one as a child, but my DP did one for me, because he always has one

Now me and the PIL do his stocking together. They all do mine. We do the PILs one each, too.

It's a lovely tradition.

we've had this discussion tonight. the 18 year old still wants one, the older and younger children don't. so i've said if one wants one they all get one. i did suggest father christmas might like to stick them under the tree this year (so it just means putting their presents in stocking) but they snorted at this. so stockings it is......though i have a feeling we may forget the carrot for the raindeer.

My eldest DD is 22 and would be very sad if she didn't get one. DD2 is just 4 and SO excited this year, they both had to get their stocking ready together. Very sweet.

Never - although may think about it when they get married and (presumably!) leave home...........

I think my parents stopped doing stockings when I was about 10?

It doesn't make me sad though, they just did things differently.

I am 33 and still have one from Father Christmas. In fact I have two, one at my house and he leaves one at my parents!

Never. We've all got stockings. Mine is not very full though; everyone else's is bulging.

Never!

We didn't have them as children but dh did and we still do stockings for each other now.

Anyone who sleeps over in our house on Christmas Eve gets a stocking.

I don't have a stocking this year for the first time ever and am genuinely quite gutted about it.

Neither DH nor i have ever had a stocking. Just presents left under the tree. Is this normal then? as i wasn't planning to do one for DS.

How do you do one? Do all pressies have to fit in or is it just for small presents?

I'm 40, my parents still do stockings for all of us, including partners and children. It's brilliant.

Have just filled one for my 25 year old and another for his girlfriend.

I suggested a few years ago he might be geeting too old for one but was met with howls of disappointment.

It's just small stuff - air freshener for the car, set of pliers etc,

We stopped (my brother and I) when we were around 10 and no longer believed in Santa. I assumed that's what everyone did. My DCs are 9 and 7, so not sure how we will proceed on this.

Mine stopped as a teenager, about 17 I think, one year my mum gave the offer of having the money instead and I took her up on it.

I don't get one now. Have two here for my sons, we do "F.C. brings stocking full of small gifts, big pressies under the tree are from us / relatives".

Report
Gossipmonster · 24/12/2013 23:23

Tbh I normally fill them with sweets, fruit and joke pressies, I do find it an extra expense though.
