They are expecting vandalism I would imagine.

I guess because the headstone bangs on about what an all round great bloke he was. Or they're worried about vandals.

It would be liable to attract vandals. And that's not fair on other people who visit graves there.

What gwen said, bit of both I reckon

There are people out there who would desecrate his grave. Removal of the headstone makes it harder to locate.

Sparklingbrook · 09/10/2012 22:19

Plus it's hideous.

Anonymumous · 09/10/2012 22:19

To be fair, it was grossly over the top - not quite on a par with Delboy's Mum's, but getting there!

Report
vamosbebe · 09/10/2012 22:19

They're worried it'll be vandalised just like the street signs outside his flat and the blue plaque.

The family members are deeply aware of the impact that the stone remaining there could have on the dignity and sanctity of the cemetery," Savile's family said in a statement.

"Out of respect to public opinion, to those who are buried there, and to those who tend their graves and visit there, we have decided to remove it."

Its a pretty big thing, and has had a bottle thrown at it this week, I can understand people visiting other graves not wanting it there, esp. if it becomes a target for vandalism.

Because it says" it was good whilst it lasted"
Nice

Poor grieving relatives with soldiers either side of him, it is a worry for them.

Poor victims with all that guff on his three headstones, a magnet for vandilism.

Report
Pancakeflipper · 09/10/2012 22:20

Because it will be smashed up.

I seem to recall his coffin being 'gold' and didn't they bury him extra deep to stop anyone nicking it?

Probably because it looks about four times bigger than anyones elses and agree that it is over the top, open to vandalism but may lead to graves nearby being vandalised too.

What a despicable man - I hope all those invloved are named, shamed and made to pay

yes its a bit bling isnt it? pretty bad taste

and yes 'it was good whilst it lasted'

will he then have an unmarked grave? or something more discreet?

He is burried in concrete, he knew this would happen is my guess.

Report
AKissIsNotAContract · 09/10/2012 22:23

Is the stuff about him being buried in concrete true?

Report
WilfredToadflax · 09/10/2012 22:24

It is an ostentatious, glowing cv of a headstone which, given recent revelations is in very bad taste.

And it would be vandalised.

Report
Glitterknickaz · 09/10/2012 22:24

Yeah, he made sure he was encased in concrete too.

Wonder why?

Report
Tryingtothinkofnewsnazzyname · 09/10/2012 22:25

Having just google imaged it, it's worse than Delboy's mum's! It is clearly going to be targeted.

FreudiansGoldSlipper · 09/10/2012 22:26

Because the description on the headstone of JS is a lie he was not a good person his charity work was a way for him to gain access to abuse the most vulnerable. he will be stripped of his title too so would have to be changed

Report
Sparklingbrook · 09/10/2012 22:27

He is buried at an angle as well so he can see the sea.

olgaga · 09/10/2012 22:29

Good grief - you really don't understand why? Are you for real? A headstone which reads "It was good while it lasted!"...

Come on! You're kidding aren't you. Aren't you?
